Hi All, I have a thomson sky + HD box and it has started playing up. It switches to standby overnight and when I switch it on next morning it says "no satellite signal is being received". So I swith it off at the main s and leave it for a couple of minutes and then switch it back on and all is well. So I set the power saver to off so that the box would not go off overnight, it did this for 2 days and all was well but this morning when I got up the box was in standby and, yes you've guessed it, the message was "no satlelite signal is being received". I have checked the signal strength and that seems OK, I reset the LNB. I really don't know what else to do. I approached Sky to see if I could get a free sky + HD box as the one that I have is quite old and I paid for it but they say no, I would have to buy a new box.
I would appreciate any help that you can give me.
many thanks

Typical symptoms of impending Power Supply failure due to degradation of the cheap and nasty smoothing Capacitors used in those Thomson Boxes.

If you don't want to bother getting it repaired, you might benefit from threatening to stop your Subs.

The Corporate avarice should kick in and do whatever is needed to keep your custom.

Take the top off the Thommo and have a look at the capacitors in the area where the power supply cable enters the box. Chances are the caps will be bulging.

Keep your fingers well clear if you do - they can hold enough charge to give you a nasty shock a long time after its been disconnected from the mains.

Hi Tivu

Thanks for the quick reply, I was afraid it was a problem with the box, I will ring Sky tomorrow and see what response I get.

Many thanks
