Is there any truth in the suggestion that the Amstrad DRX 890-Z performs better in the fringe than the Amstrad DRX 890-C.

I am replacing a Thompson HD box which struggles with Sky Arts 1 and don't want to loose this completely when changing to a new box to get Sky Anytime+

Has anyone compared the two boxes?
 
I have now been able to compare my Thompson HD box (with repaired power supply and new hard disk) with both the Amstrad DRX 890C and DRX 890Z.

The comparison was done using two feeds from a quad LNB with a foil attenuator on the face of the LNB to bring the signal near threshold. The FTA channel Pick TV on channel 152 was used for the comparison. As the signal strength diminished through the morning, with the usual dip in signal towards midday in this location, the differences between the receivers could be noted.

The Amstrad boxes were both better than the Thompson as seen by the attenuation needed for signal and sound breakup.

It was not possible to see or hear any difference between the two Amstrad model which lost signal and sound at the same level of attenuation.
 
Just out of curiosity, where is the Z version manufactured?

And internally they look the same with the same tuner layout on the PCB.
 
So now we have C, N, R and now Z. All varents of the 890. All perform VERY well in fridge reception.
 
Where is the N model manufactured, also China?

I believe I read about some issues with the R model, but I'm not sure if this was specifically due to the model itself or just run-of-the-mill bad luck with a given box. But for a while it did seem like people were specifically ordering the 890C as if it were "the one" to get...
