Sky+HDTV Receiver in Brazil

I spend 6 months of the year in Brazil where Sky HDTV is available at a price!! my question is would a Sky HDTV UK receiver work here in Brazil ?? the TV system here is PAL M or N / NTSC, I don't know if that has any bearing on the matter or not. Any views would be gratefully received.
 
Well you won't be getting Sky TV via the Astra 2/Eurobird 1 route, so I imagine what is available is some sort of dubious retransmission service (It must be dodgy, by definition, as Sky UK is ............. Sky UK and subject to Contractual and Rights constraints).

So a Sky HDTV UK Receiver will not work - you will only find out what does work by making local enquiries of the Service Provider.
 
If the service is being offered over the Internet then, dubious legailty aside, it'll probably only be SD at best.

Ah, thanks: I wonder if the OP isn't a tiny bit ambiguous, then.

Sky Brazil clearly isn't Sky UK, or anything remotely like it (Apart from being run by the dirty digger).

But nevertheless, I should imagine that a specific box is required, like Sky Italia, and I still doubt very much that a BSkyB box would work.
 
Thanks all for your responses, yes it is the Brazilian Sky service I was referring to NOT Sky UK(sorry for not making that clear ) and wondering whether or not the UK SkyHDTV box would work on the system here, I thought that as they are digital transmissions there wouldn't be a problem but as the TV system is different here ( PAL M or N ) would there be a compatibility issue with the receiver ??
 
I think you'll find that Digital TV doesn't rely on those PAL variants - they are for UHF and apply only to Terrestrial Analogue TV or to local RF distribution.

Nevertheless, I doubt a BSkyB box will work, in the same way you can't use Sky Italia boxes for BSkyB or vice versa, for other reasons such as the exact Encryption in use, the programming of the Application Firmware to access the correct Default Transponder to collect EPG Data etc.

if this is not sling box run sky uk in brazil is a long shot even with a 20 meter dish.
all sky systems are not compatible with anyones service.
sky germany will not work with a uk card or italy card.
allthough they are using similar nds systems there is enough difference to keep them from working.
same with sky italia box working with uk or germany.
if there is a sky brazil it is for their system used overthere.
there is a sky tata in india and elswere.
wondering if the brazil is the same programing as in the uk??
