Sky + in Qatar?

Hi,

I have just moved to Qatar & have a spare Sky = box & card...my apt has a dish & cable fitted, does anyone know if I would be able to use the Sky + box in Qatar..I only want the freeview chanels to keep me sane!!

The freeview channels are on Astra 2D which has a tight footprint focussed on the uk, sorry not a prayer unless you have at least a handy 3.5mtr dish.

Not a hope with a tiddly 3.5m dish!!

The UK PSB channels would require something nearer 10-15m! We know Astra 2D requires 7m on the east Mediteranean coast around Israel.

Barrowboy you best hope is to use a uk based vpn to watch channels via iplayer on broadband.
 
Thanks for your responses...as a complete novice can you explain why having set up my Sky Box, checked the signal strength (reasonably good) that I am unable to receive any signals...even local programmes? Is there anyway I can change the settings to pick up the locally broadcast service..I know the dish is ok as other people within my accommodation using locally sourced digiboxes get a good choice of local channels. Thanks
 
Because the box is looking for the Sky UK epg carried on 28E. Your apartment dish will be pointing at one of the Arabic satellite clusters (probably Badr at 26E or Nilesat at 7W) Hence no epg and hence no channels.

You can Add Channels for any free stuff carried on symbol rates of 27500 or 22000 and watching via Other Channels but to be honest you would be best off scrapping the Sky box and buying a cheap fta box from the local market.
