Sky+ installation

I'm getting married soon, and somebody has just bought us a Sky+ digibox and quad lnb to go with it.
We have just moved into our first ever house, which is a fairly new house. It has a box on the wall for satellite tv connection and phone socket, and has a satellite dish on the outside of the house.

I would like to connect this as soon as possible to Sky+, but have heard that i need two sky connectors to receive Sky+. What does this entail? Will the installer have to run another cable from the dish right through the so, and by doing so making a big hole in the wall of my house, or is there a way around this?

Seems a silly question I know, but with just having moved in to the house, I don't want to have big holes in the walls already.

Can anybody shed light on this matter?
 
Yes, Sky+ needs two cables to the dish.

Is it a Sky minidish on the wall? If so then the quad LNB should work on it (if it is not a Sky minidish then the LNB you got with the Sky+ will not work)

How does the cable currently get to the dish? I assume the wall box has no sign of the cable entering it. If you unscrew the box you should be able to get some idea of where the cable goes (such as up to the loft, or even straight out through a hole in the wall). once you know the route it shouldn’t be that hard to put a second cable next to it, however if the cable goes off on some exotic tour of your house before emerging outside it might be more difficult to trace it. If you have no idea at all how the cable gets outside then following it back from the dish to the point where it enters the house will give you some idea of how the cable gets there. If possible (and if you aren’t going to attempt it yourself) try and get the installer who originally installed the dish, they will be familiar with the house and so on.
 
hope you dont mind me saying this... but really why dont you just telephone a sat dealer. he will come and do everything for you ..

i had mine installed and the guy did a great job... yes there was a extra hole .. but its only small so not a worry... and from the back og the sky + box a small lead fits into a bt socket.. again !! he will do this..
 
A Sky+ Digibox will work perfectly as a standard digibox with your existing dish cable inserted into input 1 on the rear of ther Sky+ digibox.Of course until you have a Sky viewing card inserted into the Sky+ digibox and it is correctly "paired" to the Sky+ digibox by Sky then the record facility will not work,(assuming you have a viewing card and the subscription is with some premium channels) however even with 1 dish input the "pause live tv" facility will work This will be fime as an interim measure

Will this work even without paying for a top line subscription or the £10 extra?

Does that mean that the FTV and expired $ly subscription cards will a (very) likited function in a plusbox?

Polo, it is a sky minidish on the wall, and i guess i'll have to unscrew the box on the wall to see where the sky cable goes through. it looks like it goes up through the attic.

Should I give Sky a ring and get one of their installers out, or would it be best to get a local Sky dealer to install it. I would then just have to ring Sky for a viewing card.
 
You would probably be better to ring a local installer (try and get one with a good local reputation) and get them to run the cable. Once the box is installed call Sky and start setting up your subscription.
