Hi everyone, i'm having one of those.. if you know what i mean.

installed a 80cm dish to catch hotbird, for sky italia hd. technomate octo lnb 0.2, to feed a few rooms.

nothing wrong, nothing in the line of sight over the satellite. no visible problems whatsoever.

then....

signal at default frequencies on my horizon s2 meter reads 79db horizontal and about 76 on vertical, as usual.

sky italia decoder myskyhd does not want to pickup some frequencies. no matter what. on the decoder frequency test, some show as 7 (green) in a scale from "no lock - 3to 4 (red), 5 (yellow) 6 to 10 (green)", some will be "no lock" or 3 (red). signal on the meter was about 73 and 70 respectively. I managed to lock sky italia hd channels in the past even with a zone2 sky minidish 60cm with no problems... and with much lower signal.

tried different sky italia box hd, different lnb, different dish, different cable (about 10mt run, wf100 all copper screended), different position of dish, nothing at all. to be said, only tested with technomate lnb, so next week will try to go with some different brand, such as inverto or invacom, even if i do not normally install those on a hotbird installation...

at this point I have to think there is a local interference, as after that job, i headed to another installation, used all the equipment i replaced from the first place, actually on a 30mt cable run, signal on the meter at the dish was the same, down at the receiver end, about 67 to 69/70

frequency test on a sky italia hd decoder used at the other place to just run a test.. all frequencies with "6" (green, just enough...).

The place has a roof aerial, with rooms wired i believe from an amplifier, (to which i did not have access), but the terrestrial system and satellite run on separate wires, and separate sockets. Also, satellite cables are all wf100 cai certified cables, and all brand new run. connectors snap and seal, so i haven't gone on the cheap if you know what i mean.

i list here the tp with "3" or "no lock" on the receiver test. to be said, all the tp with bad reception have a symbol rate of 29900, most of them in high band, and other frequencies with symbol rate of 22000 or 27500 were absolutely perfect, but there was some tp with sr 29900 which was ok. i'm really banging my head over this....

the house hasn't got internet yet, not dect phone, but i don't exclude neighbors may have it

here they are:

satellite hotbird, 13E

11219 h 29900 5/6 dvb-s
11355 v 29900 5/6 dvb-s
11842 v 29900 3/4 dvb-s2
11861 h 29900 5/6 dvb-s
11900 h 29900 3/4 dvb-s2
12054 h 29900 5/6 dvb-s
12092 h 29900 3/4 dvb-s2
12360 h 29900 3/4 dvb-s2

i asked countless fellow installer and no one has ever had an similar issue, and in fact they are all now curious to find out the outcome. thanks for reading.

Sun outages last about 10 minutes. Is it possible you are actually getting too much signal off the 80cm and its swamping the tuner??

hi, thanks for your replies. problem actually was all along a week time, so i doubt it's just some solar outage. I've been installing 80cm dish for hotbird in the last 10 years and never bump into overloading the tuner. it happened once with a 80cm dish on astra1 (did not have with me a 60cm...) but that was quite clear to me why.

and i tried 2 different receivers, one myskyhd with twin tuner, from pace, the second, just a sky italia hd box from samsung, so different components, but the result was absolutely the same.

I never had too much signal on a dish either .... no matter how big ...
Next thing to do is go with a 60cm , generic LNB and maybe an Attenuator just to rule the overload out . Recheck the cables and try to align the dish slightly off and check those frequencies ... maybe try a generic box to see if it at least scans them in ,.. than you know it's the receivers .

thought about the 60cm, as sometimes for some reasons i had to install a 60cm zone 2 and it worked just fine, thanks for your input
