Sky+ not working?

I turned on Sky+ yesterday to find it wasn't working. The Sky+ box wouldn't switch off when I pressed the standby button and when I switched on the AV channel on my TV all I got was a blue screen. I disconnected the plug from the wall and tried again and the same thing happened. Later that night I rang Sky and they told me to check all the connections. Did everything he asked and still nothing. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. I don't want to get an engineer out as it will cost 110 euro only for him to possibly fix it and delete everything I've saved on it. I'd rather pay 149-199 euro for a new box. Don't want to lose what I've saved if at all possible
 
i've seen this problem in another forum, apparently its a software problem.

if your box is under one year old, sky can fix it over the air, if not they
ask for payment.
