You acnt use the recording facility withoit a contract. (Tenner a month minimum) Without a payment the box is just an over specced digibox

thats what i thought, he'll be dissappointed.
how does the box not allow you to use the hard drive even if youve paid for the box?
or what happens if youve had a contract and decided not to renew it?

You pay a tenner a month, that activates the recording feature. No payment, no recording. End of story :D

Dont knock VHS - I dug out some old tapes the best part of 20 years old a few weeks ago, and they play just fine. I bet you will struggle to find a player for your BluRay DVD's 20 years from now things change so fast

I haven't played a VHS video cassette in 5 years and the last time was only to transfer one onto DVD, but I agree they still have some use.

I've stil got a betamax video and about a thousand tapes.
Works brilliantly.
Will also bypass the copy protection on a lot of dvds too.
