Sky Single Feed Mode Skyhd

After getting sky+ and not being happy with how the single feed worked i moaned enough for sky to send an engineer with a skyHD box.

He didnt put it on single feed, but ive looked online and done that myself.


How does this work? i cant find an guide etc online?
If i record something and happen to be watching something else will it warn me?
Will it switch over automatically? do i need to leave it on standby?

Ive had a quick play around and it seems to work no different to just a sky+ box.

Firstly what do you mean by single feed, do you mean only 1 cable to set top box, then if so to record another program you will need 2 cables and a quad LNB, 1 input can record what your not watching and 2nd input can allow you to watch another program and record that same program, in simple terms.

the channel you have recorded will be stored in your SKY planner which will be stored until you delete it, To access these recordings (press TV GUIDE) then at the bottom press the (GREEN BUTTON) PLANNER) that is where your recordings end up.

PS the SKY engineer should have run all this by you on the install day , also he should have installed the cabling to suite, poor install if not
 
Sorry Dale, it seems i didnt explain well enough.

Im in a flat with a communal dish, and only have one feed coming into my front room. I was told if i switch to "single feed mode" on my skyHD box then the box would automatically switch between channels i wanted to record.

This does not seem the case so far
 
right got you now !! you will need another feed from from the distribution unit installed by whatever company installed it, try finding their number and ask if it can be arranged. If you only have 1 feed then you can only record what you are watching. except when your out and then you can obviously set recordings, but in realtime then no.

I can record what im watching, but when im out it wont record what i set for some reason. I though the Single Feed Mode was a solution to this but it seems to not work.

My question is: What does Single Feed Mode on Sky HD boxes achieve? and how does it work?

Channels come in four flavours, being either

Low Band Horizontal

Low Band Vertical

High Band Horizontal

High Band Vertical

In order to select a Channel of a given flavour, a Satellite Tuner sends Band and Polarity switching signals to the LNB.

That is why the correct solution is to supply an independent LNB feed for each tuner, in order to make all four flavours available to each Tuner.

In Single Feed mode, only one Tuner can correctly switch the LNB and the second Tuner is then limited to being able to receive Channels only of the same flavour as the master Tuner.

So, Single Tuner mode is provided to enable restricted functionality where only one feed is available (Your situation exactly). You can watch programmes of the same flavour as the master Tuner, which amounts to approximately one quarter of the total, which is better than nothing.
 
Thanks for your help.

I understood that to be the case, but i want the box to switch over channel automatically when im not home.

If i had two feeds working and left the box on bbc1, but had recordings for itv and channel 4, it would switch over to record as priority but at the moment in single feed mode it does not do this.

Any reason why?
