Sky Sports in Sweden

Hi,

I've read a lot of threads in this forum now, but I still haven't got a spot on answer to some of the questions I have (the second question would be quite easy to answer I guess):

1. What dish size do I need where I live in order to watch Sky Sports (it's the cricket I'm after so I guess Sky Sports is my only option)?

2. Which satellite should it be pointed to? (and will Sky Sports be moved to Astra 2N in the near future?)

All Sky channels are only available from 28.2E. You'll need a Sky box and card registered to a UK address via a friend or one of the specialist companies selling Sky abroad as you are not able to subscribe to Sky outside of the UK or Ireland.

At the moment a 60-80cm dish should be plenty for Sky Sports, but some of the channels on Astra 2D and Astra 1N will need a much bigger dish. At the moment we don't know what services will eventually end up on Astra 1N and next year it's all going to change again when Astra 2F arrives.
 
Thanks a lot for your reply. Yes, I knew about the whole problem of getting a Sky box and card and I believe I can solve that. But I have seen so many different numbers regarding dish size when trying to get Sky when you sit at the Swedish west coast (1,8 m was one number I found).

So, if I have a Sky box and card, you believe that I would be able to get Sky Sports on a 1m dish? Also, which satellite is Sky Sports on? When I look at the channel map for the various satellites Sky Sports seem to be on different satellites depending on the target audience they try to reach?

But in the end, if I set everything up this winter, there's a chance that when they've move channels around to other satellites, the coming year, my setup will stop working?

The big dishes are mainly needed for the BBC & ITV channels carried on Astra 2D. The Sky Sports channels are carried on the wide beam frequencies of 2A/2B.

HOWEVER - some of the interactive SS services are carried on the 2D narrow beam as well, so you will have to do without them.

As for whats happening in the future, thats impossible to say. We suspect SS will stay on the widebeams on the new satellites but in this game nothing is certain.
 
Very many thanks to you both for your replies. I will setup something this winter. When I have a working setup I will come back to this thread and update it with some info that might help other people in the future.
