A euro court ruling may soon force all subsciption broadcasters to make available all subscription cards to anyone in europe who wants to pay.For example, anyone in Spain can subscribe to Sky to watch all sky channels in Spain.
But the best thing is,any pubs in the uk can show any sports from any european broadcaster at the price they charge in their country....eat your heart out Sky:-rofl2

Regardless of any outcome the legal route would be a commercial subscription not a residential one in any pub. Its all well and good having a cheap Euro residential subscription but Sly and the Premier league wont stand by and let that happen.

This poses some interesting questions about programme rights and the broadcasters relationships with the programme makers.

Does the legislation also oblige them to use EU wide beams for transmission ? Maybe 2C has a future after all !

If an airline like Ryanair can work with an Irish licence and fly all over Europe without any further authorization,it's obvious this has to be applied to tv services aswell.
But the pub owners won't have great advantage from this, because what will be done is a single pan-european premier league package,a commercial one and a residential one.
and this time they will have to buy the commercial package priced at around the actual UK one.
In fact what they claim as "cheaper European market" is just because they're buying residential european packages, the commercial ones aren't so cheaper than the UK one.

Please explain the connection between Ryanair showing a DVD of a film on board an aircraft and football matches transmitted via satellite TV services from other countries but being received in the UK? or since I have never flown with them are you suggesting that Ryanair show Sky TV football matches on board?

We are a very long way from subscriptions being available all over Europe. For starters its only a none binding ruling, the judges making the final decision dont have to adhere to the initial ruling.

Even if the court make a ruling on the basis of the advocate's advice, it still does not necessarily meant that you'll be able to buy a Sky subscription direct from Sky in Spain, Sky and the other providers will almost certainly favour the current model of regional rights. So whilst you may be able to buy from a third party, there is probably nothing in law which could force Sky to sell into other countries and other countries into the UK, making more money for the card shifters who always charge a premium.

The only difference is that your out of country subscription will not be breaking copyright law, unless of course, as I've mentioned on many occasions, you are using a domestic subscription for commercial purposes, whereby you will be avoiding the correct subscription level by non-disclosure.

I think i can safely say that the final judgement is eagerly awaited by many, it'll certainly be an interesting time for football on satellite, whichever way it goes.

Remember that while you may rejoice at cheap televised soccer this is the same organisation that has and continues to alter the british way of life, not always for the better.

Anyone who seriously thinks they are going to continue to get cheap 3pm soccer long term at the end of this is off their rocker. It'll end up costing more for the punters - it always does. Look what happened when Europe broke then Sky monopoly in the UK. Anyone who wanted all the footy ended up paying both Sky & Setanta / ESPN..

If the judgement goes against Sky all that will happen is the cheap suppliers will not have their rights renewed and we will end up with three or four expensive packages to chooses from. The big money for the Prem isnt made in Europe so it doesnt matter if Tring Nova etc dont get their licences renewed

no,they don't show anything on board. it's just an example about how the single european market works in the airline industry. Ryanair have an Irish licence, and this entitles them to fly all over Europe without any restrictions.

There might be a courtesy liquid lunch or two on the cards for mlud near the Temple, just to keep his thoughts clear on the judgment.
