Good Evening,

First post by an old man! ;)

I recently replied to an advert to ask about installation and subscription to an F3s SkyBox. I was quoted £85 for all channels per year & £140 for the box. What I want to know, is this a good deal? I'm not really technical, but the savings look fantastic.. Any ideas?
Too good to be true?..

Kind Regards

Christopher.

Well on paper the savings would seem amazing, although a Skybox F3 is only around £50 and you are paying even more for a commercial cardshare It's bound to be cheaper than a Sky subscription, as you are effectively stealing the channels and these servers are renowned for going offline at the drop of a hat and for stuttery reception. Avoid like the plague is my advice, if you want sky, don't want a knock at the door and want a reliable service, subscribe.

Only a fool buys into a commercial cardshare which is exactly what this scheme is

Its completely illegal and you have no idea where you money is going - it could be the Sicilian Mafia, or drug runners looking for easy money, or it could be Sky themselves running a sting operation.

Its certainly not unknown for the service to disappear a few days after you have paid upfront, taking all the "subscribers" money with them.

If the card share server gets busted - which is also not unknown then the police have all the ip addresses from the server logs - and they have started going after the subscribers as well as the operators in recent years - reports are on the forum somewhere.

As Rolf says the cards they use are often grossly overloaded, leading to poor update times and interruptions when the keys change.

We ALSO know that Sky are making some changes to their encryption in the hope of knocking out all the cardshares, so dont be surprised if the service goes under after a few months.

If you want guaranteed service then buy a legit subscription!

IF THIS IS ILLEGAL, I SHALL HAVE NO PART IN IT!!

Thank you kind sirs.. The audacity of some people. You may have spared this old mans clean record. I'm appalled! Outraged! Good day.

Glad to have been of help - and keeping your name clean & out of the local rag!

You could of course look at "BBC Freesat" - a one off payment for the equipment then no ongoing fees. And completely legal :D

BBC FS have a reasonable choice of channels with several in HD - with more HD coming later in the year.

I've just noticed that on Amazon UK you can get Skyboxes with 12 months (for example) free gift..... Unfortunately the listings give no indication that this isn't legit!

Same on fleabay.

I can understand Ebay, but not Amazon.
Are there any other details?

12 or whatever months, UK based servers supported 24/7 ... Search for skybox gift.

Note is Amazon marketplace so that Amazon themselves are not the seller.

£140 for a hacked F3S is scandalous. For that price you can get yourself a legitimate bit of kit with a lot more of features. With the massive amount of options available to you now with internet TV I guess it all depends on how badly you want the Sports channels.
