SkyGo Blocked with VPN?

I believe that Sky started to block access to sky through some VPN providers. Probably they are doing some king of IP address filtering.
When I set up my VPN and try to log to my sky account I get an error page and I'm not allowed to login.
If I disconnect the VPN everything works. I'm allowed to login but I can't play the content as I'm geo-blocked.
I wonder if they will start to use this to disconnect On-Demand users connecting from abroad over a VPN.
 
How do you know you are geo blocked, not all VPNS are created equal and it could be that the VPN is doing something thats breaking the login ?
 
It always worked till last Monday...
 
just checked...does work with unotelly smart dns
 
I think the limitaion my just be in place for some VPN providers as they need to restric particular IP address ranges.
Probably, as soon as they detect that some UK IP addresses are from VPN providers they block them.
I'm using IbVPN
 
you can find a free ( but really slow )vpn by googling free uk vpn.. Perhaps testing on another vpn might be instructive.

Confirmed. I changed the VPN provider and things got back to normal.
This confirms that sky is black listing IP@ and blocking access to sky go.
My old VPN still works fine for iPlayer and 4oD.
 
the sure solution seems to be a unique, dedicated uk ip address - a few vpn providers do offer this. i doubt those would get blacklisted. i tried quite a few vpn and smartdns services, so i have experience on this. i dont know if i can mention companies here, as it would be considered advertising, but if someone is interested, i can send a private message.
 
for 4 quid a month you have have your own vps with 100gb data , 7 - 8 quid a month 1TB. Open VPN or lt2p takes about 5 minutes to configure , 15 if your following a tutorial. This way you avoid bottleknecked servers at peak times too.
 
Be careful though as it'll be against the T&C for many VPS providers as they are generally supposed to be used for web site and email hosting.
 
Its also against skys terms and conditions to watch sky or skygo outside the UK ;) The better plan is one with a bandwidth allowance as they dont throttle the connection.

Heh, yes but it's easier to monitor what people are doing on their VPS and close those accounts.
 
its an interesting thing, though, because people in the uk might use vpn services for security reasons and for online privacy...so sky is blocking legitimate users as well!

The worst that would happen is that your out of pocket for 4 / 6 quidish in that situation , not a drama.. Though over the last few months In trying different cheaper vps options Ive never had a problem. People with seedboxes for torrents the odd time will run afoul of TOS but that traffic has a totally different profile because of the number of inbound connection.
 
Perhaps I'm just a bit more sensitive about it as I'm in the internet business and have to deal with users who cause problems for others on a server, usually unintentionally. I don't deal with VPS accounts though, just web site and email hosting.
