Launched on July 6[SUP]th[/SUP], UK broadcaster Sky gave their 10.1 million customers access to the company's latest app, SkyGo. The app gives existing Sky customers the ability to watch and record live TV on their computers, laptops, iPad, iPhone, and iTouch absolutely free. They simply have to sign in with their username and password.

The service, which is actually a combination of the web-based Sky Player and the 3G phone-based Sky Mobile TV, lets customers register up to two devices of their choice. iPad, iPhone, and iTouch users will be given access to selected Sky channels, namely ESPN, Sky News, all the Sky Sports channels, and the Action, Family, Premier, and Showcase Sky Movie channels. Desktops and laptops will have access to 30 channels, specifically, all those already mentioned as well as Sky Atlantic, Sky Arts, Sky 1, Disney, GOLD, History, Eden, NatGeo, Nickelodeon, and MTV.

Because it has been made available on portable devices, SkyGo gives its users the ability access TV anywhere. Last June, Stephen van Rooyen, Sky Customer Group deputy managing director said: “The explosion of smartphones and tablets demonstrates the increasing consumer demand for accessing entertainment and communicating on the move.”

SkyGo gives the viewer an option to pause and rewind what they are watching, even if it is live TV. It also features an electronic program guide that can shrink what you're currently watching into a little TV window in the corner of your device so you can look for what else is on while still keeping an eye on your show.

Apart from the already mentioned devices, it will also be available on Xbox 360 and Fetch TV where Sky Player has been rebranded as Sky. Soon, it will also be connected to The Cloud, the public Wi-Fi network that will offer wireless access in over 4,500 public locations.

None Sky customers will be able to avail of the app through the Apple App Store beginning this August at a rate of £15-40 per month.
