Am in Moscow, upload from UK is 2-3meg.

The download here is 950kbps.

Still not great picture, the guys from Sling say that 750kbps download is enough to have great quality. It isnt, at that rate quality is poor.

Laptop is top notch. Anyone got any suggestions on how to better picture?

Cheers

Andy

Other than getting a better internet connection, there isn't I'm afraid ;)

You could try using a smaller screen where quality is poor.

How confident are you of the upload & download speed. Have you tested both with with mybroadbandspeed.co.uk or a similar speed test site

If you're planning to watch full screen even on your laptop, you'll need to be able to stream at full download capacity 950Kbps. And often times you can't pull down what they advertise as top speeds. I was using my brother in laws internet connection (1Mpbs) when i first started using Slingbox and it didn't look great. but once I upgraded to 3Mbps the picture quality improve drastically. Upgrade if you can.

Hm, at my parents ADSL, the upload is 448kbps - I guess that's not really enough for a decent picture quality? (In case I move somewhere where I can't have a dish)

I think you're probably right.

I'm looking a Slingbox solution for a friend who is working in Qatar at the moment and, from reading around, it would seem that later Slingboxes (the Pro onwards?) have a more efficient compression algorithm (couldn't decide whether to put an "i" or a "y" in that word) to give a better picture.
