Actually Rolfy, if I give him the details of the old box and he rings sky, will they activate it? If so, then I assume I could use it straight away when I receive it?

They can only activate the card when it is in the specified digibox as they send the activation through the air direct to the digibox so it has to be on till it receives the activation signal.

He ordered the card this morning, no problems. He is going away for two weeks on Friday and will get his sister to post it to me.
Should I wait until he comes back and get him to ring Sly from UK or do you think I could risk it and ring from Ireland saying something like..

"I ordered a Freesat card 30th August - give name address etc - my sister told me it had arrived at my home address in UK, but I'm over in Ireland at the moment, can I get it activated for her to use until I get back?"

Too risky?

Edit: Also, with regard to the old digibox (Pace 2200). Would I need to try and update the software before pairing it with the digibox?

Card arrived this morning.
I have just done a successful EPG forced software update (first try). Was 3.0.11* and now is 3.3a.6.
I am now deciding whether to risk phoning myself or waiting for my cousin to get back from holiday, so he can do it.

Edit: Phoned myself, just got to wait up to four hours now for it to activate.

I used an Irish mobile with sender info turned off.

I assume that I'll know when it's activated by the EPG. 103-105 aren't there at the moment.

It's been four hours now and no 103-105 on the EPG.
I have, however, got ITV CentralS via the add channels option.
Does this mean that the card is activated, but for some reason it hasn't come up on the EPG?
Is it safe to remove it and use in our main digibox now?

Its activated if you can see an ITV service. Try rebooting the box first - it may need a quick power cycle to catch up..

Thanks Analoguesat, that's what I was thinking, but thought it wise to checked first just to make sure. I have switched the digibox off and on a couple of times and the EPG is still the same. I still get ITV CH4 & CH5 in other channels okay. I guess it just a matter of waiting.

Can I now use it safely in our main digibox and pack away the old one?

Regular as in once a week? Would the EPG still be able to update when in the other digibox?

103 - ITV1 Meridian S
104 - CH4
105 - Five

Also noticed that we have...

941 -958 Various regional BBC1 channels
960-962 Scottish, Welsh & NI BBC2
963 - ITV1 London
964 - CH4



Now to pack away the old box and use both cards in the main box.

Anyone know how long they cards can be left out before they will need a signal, so they don't time out?

Just had a slight scare

Put main digibox on standby and swopped over the cards to the FTV one..

"searching for listings" 2 mins, then "no satellite signal being received".

Unplugged digibox and wait a few minutes then tried again.....

Everything's okay now!!!

From accidentlly leaving a card out I can say that anything more than a month is pushing it. 6 weeks is definitely too much.
