smartcard reader not working

hi all i purchased a gempc pcmcia card for my laptop and so far got nowhere. the drivers have automaticly installed itself to serial port 0d-37 but the software will not read cards let alone write them cos its looking for a comm port 1 to 8 but nothing is found. please any help anyone could give would be really greatful.

Not sure whether it will write them, as I thought that it was only a card reader.

These non-standard PCMCIA devices are notoriously fickle to install.
 
well on the box it did say smart card reader / writer so im hoping it will write the card but :-omg fickel is a bloody understatment
