Sorry but it's as linear as any other scale. It just uses different reference points for zero and 100 degrees.Fahrenheit is a stupid temperature scale, it isn't even linear like Celsius and Kelvin...
It is a matter of opinion really. And what you're brought up makes the most sense to a person. I've long been aware of the Reumer scale (zero for freezing point of water and 80 for its boiling point) which is, I believe, Russian (attention CJ).I hate F as a scale. Makes no sense to me as to why water would freeze at 32°... Yes, it was created from other 'checkpoints' but it really shouldn't be used for outside temperatures.
It's been one element of metrification that has been a success.
