Sogecable strikes Orange deal
Sogecable, the operator of Spain's Digital+ satellite pay-TV business, has signed a new agreement with telco Orange's Spanish subsidiary.
The deal is similar to one signed recently with Telefónica to offer triple play services, and is part of Sogecable's attempt to break its growth stalemate.
Under the terms, both Sogecable and Orange Spain will launch triple play services with broadband access and traditional telephony along with the digital TV services of Digital+. Moreover the agreement will allow Orange's clients with 3G phones to access Digital+ Móvil, Sogecable's mobile TV platform which counts more than twenty channels.
Sogecable and Orange have also agreed to launch a HD version of Digital+ Móvil over the next few months. So Digital+'s HD channels will reach in HD to the 3G mobile phone screens of Orange.
Finally the agreement also contemplates the development of Guía Digital+, a service allowing Orange's clients to access information on services and programming of Digital+, essentially bringing Digital+'s EPG to Orange. Users will be able to search for their favourite programme or films, football matches and other sporting events being broadcast on Digital+'s pay-per-view service.
Sogecable and Orange have also agreed to carry on working on further on-demand services for the future.
