Hi guys, I started this morning putting my 1m dish together because I had concreted in my mount earlier in the week and it is 100% level. After lots of fiddling I got it lined up with Thor, was able to check this off channel lists etc and then I put it round to 28.2 to try and get BBC1 etc but the dish elevation needed slightly lifted a little, so that's what I done.

I then put it back round to 1w and as expected I couldn't receive any of the free channels there. The dish elevation needed brought slightly down. I was trying to find a happy medium for the two but am ready to give up.

Does anyone have any ideas what may be wrong?

Thanks
Davy

Welcome to the forum,

Have you set the motor inclination to your site Latitude/elevation (90- Lat)?

Well if your Pole truly is level, then I should look very carefully at the relationship of the Dish to the Motor Stub.

First, please confirm you have attached the Dish in line with the Datum mark (usually a very faint ridge/score on the Stub).

Second, check that when you tightened the clamps securing the Dish to the Motor Stub that it did not slip "sideways". The clamps are often stepped and if you don't take care they can go out of kilter. The error may be hard to spot by eye, but will make a heck of a difference to your Arc tracking (Been there, done that!).

I done everything as it said in the instructions and following all guides on the net.

Unfortunately I can't check these things at the minute as I am in work.

I have set the inclination to 90 -lat. Was nearly glad I had to come to work as it was really starting to annoy me.

I'll be honest and say that I didnt see any mark but the dish looks in line to me.

What motor is it watcher87?

It's easy to mistake the EL with the Latitude markings on the motor bracket, a common mistake many make.

It was part of an ebay package. I posted the link but I think a moderator has to approve it first when I post a link so here is the item number.

With the information you have given it seems your dish is not tracking the correct shape for the arc. If you need to increase elevation at 28e then obviously you will be too high for your 1w set up. Your track is too peaked. To flatten it decrease your elevation setting on the motor only then decrease the elevation angle about the same amount on your dish only. This latter is called dish declination. Carry on doing this until you reach the right arc.
Just out of interest this error that you found should have also shown on satellites to your west. e.g. Hispasat 30w etc. (This would have confirmed your pole is in fact vertical.)
From N Ireland you should be using the 8W satellite as your peak of the arc. 11011H 27500 is a good TP on 8W. Forget 1W!!

@ the watcher, sounds like it is just something simple is required. If you want me to have a look it your dish to get you up and running for the footy season drop a PM.

Almost, and Western satellites being out of line could mean an East/West adjustement is required. The pole could still not be vertical and a good viewing arc could be made by fine adjustment of the other adjustments within the system.

If you can get a few Western satellites then it is most likely the Elevation and Declination settings need some fettling.

Couldn't believe it when I finally got it sorted.
