My Satellite Setup
FTA Fortec HD Satellite Receiver, minidish, only aligned to 28.2

Hi all

New here and first post so I hope it's not silly question!

Had Sky, wanted to get rid and thus bought a Fortec Passion, so I could have HD.

When setting it up, which satellites can I scan on to get free channels? Is it just Astra? I have not changed the dish from the previous Sky installation.

Hope someone can help!

Thanks
Kyle

If you haven't moved the dish then you will only be able to scan Astra 2.

You will also only be able to display the BBC HD channel as the other $ly ones are encrypted.

Many thanks Paul - are there some (free) foreign language ones that previously I would not have got on Sky?

Also, didn't know there were other HD channels apart from BBC HD!

You can receive Luxe HD on Astra 28E - scan 12643H SR27500 FEC 2/3. Not that there's much on there of interest - one of those 'lifestyle' channels.

Other HD channels on various satellites can be found here (some FTA) but of course you will need a suitable dish installation to receive them -

You can also scan Eurobird 1 which is at 28.5 East.

Not on the Passion. That's why I said Astra 28E - that's what you have in the satellite list, and it will include Eurobird in the scan.

Later firmware ?

(and a broomstick to hit the dish over to another satellite )

Llew, how do I add the one you mentioned? The list doesn't go up to that horizontal value - stops just short on drop down list.

Should be in the Channel list showing as 54206, but if not, go to Menu -Advanced Scan- TP Freq 12643- Symbol Rate 27500- LNB Polarity Horizontal. Then Start Scan.

Successfully added! I still have my old analogue Sky dish, would I get anything off that?

If I wanted a basic dish to get receive Astra 28.2 and other satellites, how much would I roughly be looking to pay? Would I need motorised one?

Hi Kyle,

The Moteck sg2100 Diseqc motors can be got for around £40. An 80cm to 1m dish probably about the same. Check out one of the site advertisers.

You can motorise the sky minidishes also, if you are desperate.:-rofl2

Your Sky analogue dish would have been pointing at Astra1.. (19.2E) , but I think that you will have to change the LNB for a universal one, to benefit from it fully. A Diseqc1.0 switch could be used to switch between the two dishes.

Robbo:)

Hi Robbo

That's great - to be honest, I would probably get rid of the old two and just have new motorised one in place.

Since I am new to this (sorry!), are companies willing to install if I provided the dish?

Would I get quite a few more FTA channels doing it that way?

Kyle

Hi there are a number of sites that list what channels are on particular satellites. 28.2E is the main one for English FTA.

Here are 3 sites that I use regularly.

www.lyngsat.com
www.flysat.com
and kingofsat ( do a google).

Yes I imagine there are installers that will do an install if you get the parts, but with help from members here and the guides you may be able to do it yourself. Many of us have.:)
