My Satellite Setup
TV via Sky 2 to digital TV and round the house via a loftbox
Computer via cable broadband

Hi everyone

I'm new on here and I've got a problem. We have a very basic system a Sky plus going to a new digital TV and to a analogue TV in adjacent room via a loft box. Before getting the digital TV before Christmas all picture and sound were in sync. Now we have full sync on the main digitalTV and full sync on the old analogue but there is a lag, with the sound between TVs. There may be a lag with the picture but of course you can't see both sets at once.

It's driving us mad with the constant echo unless we close the door between rooms. Is there a solution to this problem?

Nope. Not really.

We have this as well ............. if one of us is having "an early night" and watching the same prog. as in the main room, it can get quite disconcerting.

Much more processing in a modern TV.

Same problem can occur even with different designs of "Digital" TV.

Even worse, sometimes Audio and Video on a single TV can be out of Sync, when using eg an external HD Satellite Receiver. Sometimes, there is a adjustment available to try to correct it by delaying the audio.
 
Absolutely our second TV is in the kitchen and it's very distracting. I presume it's to do with the analogue and digital set up.
 
Even if all other factors were equal, DTT version of eg BBC1 will be out of sync with DSAT version.

Also, try listening to Radio 5 Live FM commentary whilst watching Video of the same event on TV. Nightmare.

One just learns to live with these foibles.
 
It's probably because you've bought a good quality main TV. It'll be doing more processing on the picture, which takes time, and the audio will be delaye internally so that it's still in sync with picture.

As with Tivu, we have the same situation with our cheapo TV in the kitchen which lags noticeably compared to the expensive main one. This is all with the same terrestrial TV signal. With a satellite signal it can get even worse!

The new TV is a Handspree, I had never heard of them but it turned out they had one at my daughters house share when she was at uni and it worked fine. The one in the kitchen is very old, from Tesco originally, we think. When it first happened I thought I had got the connections mixed up they all go to a wall socket with six or seven connectors plus the sky box and dvd.

But thanks everyone at least I'm not on my own.
 
Next project is to sort out how to watch how to watch F1 this year someone said I need a dreambox but I know nothing about all this stuff. The only race I know I will be watching will be at Silverstone. I've booked our tickets and pitch for the tent, just need better weather than last year!
 
Wireless headphones in one room would sort out the echo problem.
 
F1 can be followed free to air on RTL (German language) on the Astra 1 Satellite at 19.2E, on TF1 (Suisse) on Eurobird 9 (9E) or free to view (One time paid for Card) on Rai Uno (Italian) on Hotbird (13E).

It isn't a Dreambox you need but (in the first two instances) a generic Free To Air Satellite Receiver and a dish that can be aligned to the relevant Satellite. In the third instance, you'd need a TivùSat Card and either a TivùSat box or a generic box with a Common Interface slot that can accommodate a TivùSat Conditional Access Module)

And, if you don't care for German, French or Italian Audio, you can enjoy sync problems even more by muting it and getting your Commentary from R5 Live .........

Many of us are already geared up for the new Season.


PS: My inline speel-chocker gives "Titivate" for "TivùSat"!

Now that's what I call lateral thinking. It could also give me an excuse for not hearing what her indoors is saying.

Sounds like double Dutch to this poor ignoramus. What would a satellite dish and TivùSat box cost and I presume I would need a satellite finder?

I've just been looking at the races The British Broadcasting Chumps are covering and the various comments from fellow aficionados. My personal view is that it's the worst business deal I ever seen..... but then it's not their money they're spending.
