I have a 1m Gibertini XP on a motor. The dish nuts (ie for elevation setting and fixing the dish to the motor mast stub) are heavy-duty wingnuts, the nuts that fasten the motor to the pole are ordinary nuts. I'd like to replace said pole nuts with wingnuts, but I'm having trouble sourcing some that are of the same heft as the dish nuts. I can find lightweight M8 galvanized wingnuts easily, but they are nowhere near as strong as the nuts that came with the dish.

Ideas? Have tried the usual suspects. The wingnuts that came with the dish look a bit like a wingnut welded onto a "normal" nut, said wings probably being about 5cm in span. I'd like something like these if possible.

en VF: wingnut = écrou papillon / oreilles

Amazon.uk list some M8 stainless steel wing nuts that look up to the job....search for :

Bolt Base 8mm A2 Stainless Steel Wing Nuts Butterfly Nut DIN 315 M8 - 5

Don't know if Amazon.fr list them as well...just a thought but do you have a Calipro near you? Found them good for heavy duty bolts, nuts etc...

Thanks - saw these earlier but they're much lighter than the original nuts or the wingnuts that came with the dish. Might do the job, though :) Calipro: don't ever remember having seen one around here, alas.

Will take some photos of the existing setup when I get home.

are these what you are looking for?

@hairybadger Could you show some pictures of antenna and a place for wingnuts?
I have 65cm Kathrein antenna and it has couple of wingnuts to mount to the pole. Do you need such a nuts for same reason? Do not see antenna on the picture.... I know, it is invisible one :D

Rima - nothing would surprise me as far as you're concerned, not even an invisible dish :) Wingnuts are for mounting motor to pole - current wingnuts are a bit weedy, those fixing the motor stub to the dish and for the dish elevation are solid as.

Nope - weedy :) Additionally

:) although I suspect they slap that on just about every product other than distilled water....

Your, er, nuts look pretty good :)

It is not mine, it is Kathrein nuts (I am not sure Kathrein is name of producer) :-rofl2

@hairybadger Just a question: Do you really need wingnuts? Simple nuts are not enough?
Sure, simple nuts are enough but wingnuts make my life easier :) With them I'm less likely to skin my knuckles when adjusting the dish. Also - *you* of all people are asking me if something is *necessary*? Oh, the irony :D

OK, OK we like unnecessary things, agree wit you. I will try to make some wingnut, perhaps tomorrow. Will see.

It's a very kind offer but I don't want to put you out - you have plenty of your own projects to deal with :). I think @martin-f has found a suitable supplier for me, plus it's a UK site so postage is likely to be cheaper than from Latvia. If push comes to shove I'll have them delivered to a friend in London and pick them up when I go.

edit: spoke too soon. 13.49GBP delivery, the price for the 4 bags I want is only 14.72GBP. So delivery is almost as expensive as the product. I note, however:

FREE EXPRESS DELIVERY on orders over £600.00 to France
how many bags of nuts would I have to order for free delivery, then? :)
