Braving the bitter winds this morning Ive got my adsb antenna up again. The range in some directions is certainly much better - at the higher flight levels Im getting out over Northern Ireland & the Isle of Man here :)

Here is the last splat from Galashiels:

And here is the first splat from Kelso - the system has been back up an hour or so at this point:

Im quite pleaased with that considering the summer flights have now ended & the skies will be quieter up ere :)
 
So after running for about 8 hours the splat has evolved to this:

There is a distinct north-east / south-west bias although Id say there is plenty more to come in some directions. South-east is probably limited by The Cheviots to some degree and north-west is hampered by the brick chimney & roof as the antenna isnt clearing the roofline yet.

Rings at 20 miles - the outer purple line is 160 miles, so my maximum range today has been about 165 miles
 
Maximum range now up near 200 miles out to the west and 160 to the east. Theres is still a distinct "butterfly shape" to the splat though

Im hoping the antenna survives the current gales.......

The multilateration map is interesting too - my logging station is getting an occasional ping interacting with other stations well outside my coverage area especially to the south.

The strong winds this week have bent the aerial over a bit - and now I seem to be getting better range north west!

I had the local police heli in the area earlier - first time Ive seen one of them round here. (There is a big police presence in the next village over after an apparent murder/suicide on Boxing Day.)

The gods of VRS have been kind to me today Ive broken the 200 miles barrier for the first time today ^_^ and had some good contacts up towards the north west

Rings now set at 25 miles with the outer purple line being 200 miles.

Just glancing back through the sdr threads and come upon this again. So heres what the antenna spalts have evolved into after a year since the last report. The map has changed from Google to Open Maps as Google decided to try & charge (like thats ever going to happen!)/ Pic 1 is overall range. Pic 2 is the full range splat.

Range rings every 25 miles with the thick ones every 50 miles, so the maximum range SW out over Ireland is ~220 miles :)
