:confused:I wish to install a HD Freesat system to two rooms. Obviously I will need a dish and two HD recievers, but then I get lost! Not with the installation or setting up, that is pretty much explained elsewhere. So the questions are

1) Will I need a dual or a quad LNB (I'm confused as the neighbour has just had his Sky upgraded to HD and he seems to have a "double" cable from his new dish into the house)

2) Once I've installed the dish and cables, will an SD reciever for the 2nd room be OK (not HD I know, but lets see how many pennies are left over)

3) What should I be looking for when sourcing co-ax

4) Is it just the cheaper recievers that still use SCART leads

Hope the questions aren't to banal for you guys

1. Depends if you are going to use just HD boxes (one tuner) or HDRs (two tuners): You need one feed per tuner.

2. SD receiver has a single tuner so make sure you account for this when calculating the total number of feeds.

3. As long as the cable runs aren't unduly long, any proper Satellite grade cable will suffice.

4. All HD receivers will have HDMI. I believe Freesat SD Receivers don't have HDMI, althought here are a few non-Freesat SD Receivers that do have HDMI as well as SCART - the Silvercrest SL45 comes to mind.


Nothing is banal if it helps someone who needs the information.
 
Many thanks for the reply. All becoming clearer!! I take it that HDR refers to a HD reciever that records? so an SD or HD reciever would take just the one LNB output and SD or HD reciever+recorder will take two. So in the fullness of time when i can run to two HD Recorders I would eventually need a quad LNB?
 
If you get a Sky minidish, you can only buy singles or quads anyway, so get a quad. Also you might as well run two cables to each room. If it's a shortish run, you can use the wf65 type twin (< 20m), otherwise its best to use full size shotgun cable, or two separate wf100 or similar.
