Hi all,

Had a strange problem this afternoon while fitting a motorised setup to my mates existing dish he's had for a few years. Basically i bought a new horizons motor from cdtronix which seems all good. Setup motor to correct elevation etc, checked pole was plumb, attached motor to dish and put on pole. Set the receiver up on usals and sent dish to 1w. On alligning the dish, there wasn't enoiugh adjustment to on it to get full signal on thor 1w, any ideas?

When you say "not enough adjustment", are you referring to dish bracket/elevation?

If so, the dish bracket was probably fitted downside up. Might not have been crucial when used as a fixed dish, but interposing the motor may well have made all the difference.

(That would be your mate's fault)

Or:

The motor angle has been set against the wrong scale - often marked in Latitude on one side of the motor bracket and Elevation on the other. Setting the figure for Latitude against the elevation scale, or vice-versa, is a classic error.

Best to forget the Motor Elevation scale completely and just set the Motor to 50+ on the Latitude scale, taking care to observe the correct datum mark.

(That would be your fault!!)

If those explanations don't fit the bill, whack up some piccies.

Hello .....................

Any joy?

Hi Tivu,

Thanks for your reply, yeah it was the dish elevation i was explaining. Double checked the bracket and it is 100% the right way, also checked the latitude markings on the motor and they are spot on. Dish is one from a London shop that is well known for selling shite products...

Oh dear ................ !

So perhaps your friend might be persuaded to upgrade to a non-shite dish?

OTOH, if you were to reverse the dish bracket, could you get some more travel in the desired direction?

I seem to recall a spate of problems of a very similar nature being discussed on the Forum a year or so ago, but would be hard pushed to find the Thread(s).

Cheers guys, gonna pop back the weekend with an old technomate dish just incase....

Looks like some dish designer tried to marry the virtues of the stable rib from a Triax dish mount with a functional elevation bracket, resulting in Frankensteindish.

Pity the unsuspecting member of the public!

:(

Update guys.....went back with the technomate dish and was up and running in minutes, 53e right round to 45w....happy days. Just shows that the alshat dish doesn't have much of an adjustment. Thanks..

Thanks for letting us know - all good info that may help others now or in the future.
