I have read a few guides but I dont understand why you can stream dreambox - pc (lan), but not dreambox - pc (wan).
It seems from the guides that it has to be dreambox - pc (lan) - internet.

Why do you have to use a pc? Why cant you just access the dreambox over the internet to stream from it withou tthe need to go through the pc and use VLC etc?????

Because a standard definition dreambox stream varies between 5-8Mbps (roughly).

I dont know of any ISPs that provide an upload speed anything close to this. You'd be lucky to get 51Kbps upload speeds.

So, the PC is needed for compressing the stream before uploading it. A dreambox just doesnt have the horse power to compress a stream on its own. It sends it pretty much as it gets it.

Argh ok, I get that. So, you say that the pc compresses the video. Does this mean that if I streamed from my house to my mates house, the quality of the video will not be as good as it is when I watch it on my telly at home because its been compressed?

I was hoping to stream from my dreambox to a pc in another house and watch tv in full screen at full res and quality. Didnt realise it cant be done...........
