Suddenly.. no colour in other rooms

My Satellite Setup
Sky + Thomson 80gb Box

Apologies if this is the wrong forum (1st time user!!).

I have a sky+ system (Thomson) that allows me to view the channels in three different rooms (and change the channel via Magic Eyes).

The signal is amplified in the loft using a Televes 7+1 Amplifier

All worked fine, until suddenly the picture in the two bedrooms went black and white.

The picture in the lounge (nearest to the sky+ box) is showing colour.

The sky signal in the bedrroms has sound, a good quality picture and can be changed using the magic eye - but no colour.

I've checked and double checked all connections in the box and tvs and replaced the Televes Amp, but it has made no difference whatsoever.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Welcome to the forum microbaby

Well based upon what you have said, it sounds like you are using the RF out connector to a loft distributor. I would just check the settings within the main skybox to ensure that RF out is active. A re-boot of the main stb that is still colour may be also be the solution.

Apologies for my stupidity - but to reboot the set top box, do I just unplug it for 10 minutes .... or something else?

Also, will the re-boot delete all the saved tv programmes?

Try retuning the 2 tv's that are showing black and white pictures. It may be that the sky digibox modulator has drifted off tune very slightly and as a result the tv's are tuned into the wrong sideband.
Your downstairs tv will probably be connected by a scart lead and will therefore not be affected by the drift.

Yes just do as you say and no your saved programs will not be affected. I will say though that Pete's suggestion is also another good one to try first though.

Hi, just unplug for a minute or so and reboot.

If the fault is only present in two of the remaining rooms, it's likely the TV's may only need retuning as explained above :)

EDIT: Too slow typing :D
 
Thanks all - the reboot worked and colour is restored. However, the picture quality seems slightly worse than before. Is there anything simple I can do to improved the picture?
 
Well now this definately sounds as though the tv's in the bedroom need retuning.
Try that first, disabling any AFC control before you begin .

There should be two points where you can receive a colour signal.....you want to tune into the one that is highest up the band.(upper sideband).When you have tuned this signal in precisely, enable the AFC to lock on the signal and then store on the designated channel number.
Note some tv's may not show a AFC control ...if this is the case just tune in the stations and store as above.

Most modern TV's with have an auto tune function to take care of the above.

In what way does the picture quality seem slightly worse?
