If I wanted to run 800 hd through an amp do I simply run the dvi/hdmi cable to the amp and then a hdmi cable from the amp to the tv?

I also intend to run ps3 and blue ray player, again I assume I run these 2 through the amp with hdmi cable but I dnont need any more cables running from the amp to the tv.

thanks in advance.

Some FTA receivers do not have the audio on the HDMI, so in this case look for an optical or coaxial output on the satellite receiver and run this to your amp.

But if your receiver dose have the HDMI audio on the HDMI cable then all you need is to run it to your amp's TV or SAT HDMI input, you can also run from any HDMI device to your HDMI capable audio receiver/amp and then its output (via HDMI cable to the HDTV's HDMI input.

A good audio receiver/amp will have 3 (or more) HDMI inputs to a switched HDMI output, what ever source you have selected (TV, SAT, DVD, ?) will have the audio at the amp and video switched to the TV.

Thanks

Not sure which if any FTA channels have surround sound but I will give it a go.

thanks again

BBC1 HD, BBC HD and C4 HD(but not ITV1 HD) transmit in Dolby Digital so will have 5.1 for some programmes.

Even when not in 5.1, a lot of the older films were in Pro-Logic (as long as the amp recognises it) which just uses the stereo soundtrack.
