T-Rex Cam + CAS2 problems

Hi there im a bit new to all this but getting there i just bought a t-rex cam and a cas2 I've been on the duolabs website the unit i have is a "Cas Interface 2 Plus"
"Yet again Duolabs strike back with another ground breaking device. The CAS INTERFACE 2+Plus.
The new Cas Interface 2+Plus is based on Cas Interface 3 technology giving much more features than the old Cas Interface 2 for Cam programming."
I recieved the following in the pack
• 1 CAS Interface 2+Plus device
• 1 20-Pin female cable, length 30 cm
• 1 J-Card
• 1 Dummy Card

i downloaded and installed the latest studio software and drivers for the cas2 this was fine it says my cas has connected i slide the dummy card in the cam connect it all up with the female cable when it prompts me for the dragon file which i have the latest one 3.43 once ive done that it says initializing CI module then firecrypt 1.3 once it gets that far it just hangs on 'Preparing for Programming wait for start' I've tried a differant USB cable i tried using a differant version of the studio software and a differat pred file but still having the same problem as earlier hangs on 'Preparing for Programming wait for start'
Anyone got any ideas

I have the same problem !
A standard TREX module, a new CAS2+ and latest Cas Studio software, win XP

I must be stupid because this should be really easy.

Software recognises interface (one red light on unit)
I plug in the trex, trex logo face up, plug the dummy adapter to the dummy card & insert it into the trex (contacts face down), select "trex" in Cas Studio, browse to pred file (preditor352-dis.dra), a new window opens & cam initializes, I see the old pred version on the cam, it then hangs on "wait for start prepare to programming"

Could anyone help ?
 
When using a loader card the contacts have to be face up in the Cam, so you could try turning the contacts round.
I found this guide for the Cas 3:
connect one end of 20pin ribbon cable to cas3
and the other end to dummy card.
insert Dragoncam into pcmcia slot of cas3
and insert dummy card into dragoncam slot (contacts facing up)
insert usb cable, and start cis software.
click cam module, then other cams, then Dragoncam.
select cam version, either ( 2.x ) or ( 3.x - 4.x )
click file name [...] and navigate to required *.dra
a new window opens...(common interface host)
select Dragonload. then click the Enter Selected button
select "Yes, Load Module", then Enter Selected button.
dragoncam will now be loaded with selected file.
a progress monitor will be shown in dragoncam loader window.
wait for loader successful, then remove cam.
 
Nope, turning it round doesn't help. I get an error "not a valid loader card" so I guess the dummy card is ok (with the contacts facing down).
Do you know if there are any issues with USB power not being sufficient ?

after reading round the forums all the instructions are for programming a Dragon using the Cas 3 and the ribbon cable not the Cas 2. Have you got a loader card and cas 2 add on ?
Please post back with details of your loader card, Fun 7 or PIC F84A.

I have the same setup as Watty at the top of this thread. The Duolabs site for the Cas2+ Plus states :
• Dragon Cam; it is possible to program any version by inserting the Dragon Cam into Cas Interface 2+Plus and using a Dummy Card. This mode eliminates the need of inserting the Dragon Cam into a receiver, which can sometimes damage the CAMs besides being unpractical.

Everything suggests that with this setup, the dummy loader card acts as a virtual loader and directs the .dra file directly into the cam as a normal loader card would, while the cam is powered by the cas2.
My cam has never been updated so i've no reason to think it is faulty.

The Cas studio software can browse around the cam so it reads ok, just won't write. That's why I was wondering if my usb port is a bit low on power. I'll try a powered usb adapter later on to see if it helps.
 
Hi rkhsaw,
you could try re-installing the drivers for your Cas 2, including the MS Dos drivers, located in the CIS77, drivers folder, also have you got all the XP updates, especially service pack 2 which contained updated USB drivers.
These are the only things I can think of, at present, that could be causing you problems.

This is a real bummer. Everything seems fine. I removed & reinstalled, I've got just about all of the latest MS updates. I tried a usb adapter with external power.
I dug out my old AXAS cam which was broken, and used the cas to fix it & reprogram MREV 2.25 onto it so the cas seems to work. I guess there may be a fault with the dummy card. I've emailed Duolabs for help. Lets hope they reply.

This is an update on my problem of CAS2+ not programming a Dragon cam.
I've tried on a different computer but just the same error. I've email Duolabs but no reply so far.
I would appreciate it if someone can confirm that the CAS2+ does actually word as a Dragon programmer with the supplied dummy card + adapter.

For those of you interested, I finally got my CAS2+ to program my Trex/Dragon. Despite several Emails, I never got a reply from Duolabs (zero points to Duolabs' after sales service) but I DID get a reply from the Italian Ebay shop I bought the unit from who offered an exchange unit. 3 weeks later a new CAS2+ came throught the post from Italy which worked great ! 10 out of 10 to Ebayer marfe68 who gave a great service and was also the cheapest I could find o Ebay.

Now back to the telly :)
