My Sherborne connection is talk talk.
But I never use the supplied modem/router
And I always change the username and password for the device, along with changing the ssid, hiding it, and using a Radom generated password.
Perhaps a few more people should do the same?
Just plugging it in and leaving to the default settings is asking for trouble if you ask me.

..but like Chris ..I have NEVER used their propietory hardware .....always used my own.

From what I have seen and read, it is widely considered that Talk Talk is one of the worst large ISPs in the UK - and that's why they are losing customers at a huge rate, and their share price is reflecting that. Were I with them, which I am not (been with Virgin and its predecessors for many years - not the cheapest but fast, and pretty reliable and secure), I would be leaving PDQ as things will only get worse before they (possibly!) get better.
Also, I still never use the Virgin cable modem/router (currently a Netgear-sourced Superhub II), except in modem mode and with my choice of a decent router and security s/w on the machines to do the more complex work on the house network.

When i first went with them, it was the financial details that were hacked.
They gave away free noodle accounts to keep an eye on your credit report.
Now this with the modem!
Thank god I only have to wait another 2 months and I can move the connection.

Pipex was a brilliant isp, and a decent customer services department.
I had them for many years, and recommended them to quite a few people locally.
It's a pity the good ones get bought out :-(
