As per the title really. I was given one of these BNIB, must have been a good ten years old. I installed it and fired it up and after a long time was eventually rewarded with a working system, albeit with some strange menu structures.
That was about four months ago but just lately recordings have failed and the space available shows as 0%. I can't even play any previous recordings. I can overcome this by doing a factory reset but, of course, any previous recordings are wiped and I then have to fill in various options. Looking online the HDDs seem have a problem after a few years (mine's a bit early!) and people have replaced the standard 320GB items with a new one. I have wondered about putting an SSD in before now to try to speed up the horrendously long time it takes to do, well, just about everything, and this would be the perfect time in that respect..
But, is it possible? The internet seems to think that 320GB is the largest you can fit and the nearest SSD to that would be 480GB. I wouldn't mind putting that in if all that happens is 160GB is ignored, providing it works. Otherwise, going down to 240GB is the other option, again providing it works.
The internet thinks there might be "problems" going to an SSD conversion and I haven't been able to find any posts from someone who's actually done the job successfully. So, I'm looking for someone who has, or at least has a solid link to that someone. I can buy a new no-name 480GB SSD for £30 so it's not a huge amount to risk.
Anyone?
