Okay currently i am living in the middle east...is it possible to use a DVB-S card and then without a CI interface, watch all the channels using a softcam?

Also i am not sure whether this fits in this area but i searched like crazy on internet...

couldnt get what a softcam is..

i know there is a smartcard and "cam" which is like and enclosure in which we enter a smart card.

but then what are these softcams...dragon cam etc..i mean i read that using a what ...DreamBox and a softcam we can watch pay channels..

Also is there a different key for each channel or a network? like does TataSky use a single encryption key for all its channels?

Not agaianst the rules no, it just gets very complicated if you ask dozens of questions in one go!

Heres the answers to some of the questions:

A softcam is a bit of software that emulates a cam (which is the bit you slide the card into - can be a seperate CI unit or built into the receiver.)

You cant watch Tata Sky India without subscription, its secure scrambled.

Pay up or do without. :D

Ok suppose i do get a legit subscription to TataSky..can i insert their Smart card into a DreamBox and would it work fine?

since one of the models of DreamBox has a PVR and we can had HDD etc..

so as regards to TataSky's encryption, just for educational sakes(yeah i mean it) i found out they use Videoguard but isnt that possible to decrypt using Vplug and keys or emu or anything like that?

since Tata Sky is a JV of Tata and Sky UK...i think if SKy Uk sat channels can be decrypted then why not TataSky? just my two cents..

and sorry for asking all those q'ss in one. go..i admit it makes things difficult...

and Analougesat what do you mean by Secured scrambled? i thot it was just VIdeogaurd i saw on the Lyngsat site..on their channels...

You may be able to use your Dreambox with a legit subscription card, you certainly can with a BSkyB card, but Sky UK channels can not be decrypted without a card, so your premise about TataSky is incorrect.

where can i ask to be sure if someone is already using such a system?does it matter which cam they are currently using?

Not really sure, as you need someone who is currently running that setup.

The best CAM for the BSkyB card is CCcam.

I havent seen any information on the forum about anyone using dreamboxes in India - mainly because of the cost involved!

Why dont you start a seperate thread in the India subforum asking specifically for any information about dreambox users in India?

No....

as i am an indian..but im not living in India per se..i have been settled in Middle east dubai/qatar for almost a decade...

the thing is as most of us know the DishTV(India also) and Tata Sky/ are on NSS6 and Insat 4A respectibvely which somehow gives us fringe reception, i mean footprint region, though obvoiusly Dubai is in much better stand in this regards.SO many of us here recieve them using legit smart cards bought from India.

Yeah i know they arent much people in India getting Dreamboxes, they are quite bit expensive i admit, but their features are so awesome cant den y that.

I guess so no one is currently using a DreamBox ...a properCAM with the Tata Sky smart card.

Yes, but what Analogue sat is alluding to is that most of the users currently watching TataSky will be looking in the Indian sub-continent sections, not here. So if you want to try and find one who is using a Dreambox, then that is the place to ask the question, as most of the European users cannot receive the satellite.

oh ok..i get it now..

so the max footprint region of NSS6/Insat4A doesnt reach UK or europe? even with huge dishes is it possible?

here 180 cm ones work fine..many of my friends are already using them.....tho a few channels tend to go glitchy at times..(specific durations of the day)..

Nope - those satellites are below the eastern horizon in west Europe / UK.

It has special software loaded that contains the decryption keys to open certain pay tv services.

(Only available with certain pay services - NOT any of the Indian services, and the software needs updating regulary.)

The answer is simple - the Indian services started later and have access to better encryption systems.

Also of course as the European system have been around for years the h&cker boys have had longer to work on them. :D

Dont hold your breath. Sky UK uses NDS Videoguard just like Tata does and its been more or less secure for nearly 10 years! (There have been rumours nothing more - and when the h&ckers got too close Sky UK just swapped all the subscription cards out and nailed it shut again!)
