I have just purchased another TD it came installed with a 80gb HDD but for some reason it wont spin up or anything.

I have tested the HDD and it works on a PC i have also tested the power supply to the HDD once in the TD and all is good.

I have replaced the ribbon ide cable with a known good one.

Also if I unplug the HDD from the power supply the TD wont start.

Still nothing

Please can someone help?

So the HD isn't visible in System Setup - More System Setup - HD Status menu? (presumably not if it's not spinning).

Could try initialising the HD in the HD Installation Menu.

How do i do that ?

and no the systerm setup bit is grayed out and says hdd not conntected

So you can's get into HD Installation from More System Setup?

No it is grayed out just skips past it from system information to remote control config

This is strange if i unplug the hdd even though its not being seen by the TD both the power cable and ide cable the td boots to the bit with the winking bird then it just shuts down the only way to get the power to come back on it to unplug it and plug it back in and it dose the same again.

Now when I plug the HDD in it boots up fine but no HDD seen etc.

Mysterious. Try reinstalling a new image without the HDD connected, and see if it boots up OK.

Can you point me in the right direction of a good image please link :-)

Try the last TDMan image. You can find it here -

Right i have downlaoded and flashed the TD with this New 26 Feb 2010 Tdman Update the flash went as is should do from remembering the last time i did one.

I did it with HDD disconnected.

Now the TD starts up shows boot screen then winking bird then hangs for about 10 secs then shuts down and i have to unplug it to get power back on again

OK, sounds it's not completing the full flash to the eeprom. Some time since I did a full image flash. I'll have to trawl my memory for possible causes. I had a similar problem once (hanging after boot-up) but I think it just stayed with the blinking Penguin, not shutting down.

Ok thank you for taking you time to help and i think your right about not full flash as it seems to quick for me when flashing with a 6mb image.

Hope you come up with something else for me to try :-)

BTW, did you erase VAR before rebooting? (in the LCD Menu Erase/Init Var-Part)

This clears out any problems that may reside in the Var directory.

I have just erased the var part and still the same so i guess its deeper than that then my problem.

If I think of anything worthwhile I'll come back to you.

Right I have been having a play around with flashing a new image on and i seem to have got it stable now I opted for the hisat one and seems to work.

But still no HDD it dose not spin up at all the hdd works as i have tested it again in my pc but I am now in the process of formatting it to c if that will make a difference.

i have tested the power supply to the HDD in the TD and that is working ok so what could cause the HDD not to spin up?

Can't think of a possible solution if the HD is working in your PC, especially as it came with it already in your TD. Was it shop bought or a private / auction sale?

Unlikely, but is there any sign of the HD folder in /mnt when you ftp to your box?
