Technomate 5400 with 2 dishes

Hi guys, newbie here.
I bought a technomate 5400ci super a week or so back. Along with it, I got a 1.1m motorised dish as well.
I've spent a fair amount of time reading up on stuff on this very useful site, as it is over 20 years since I installed a multi sat system. Anyway, as the new system arrived, an offer of a different flat came up at very short notice, which we had to take. I've got a few weeks until we move, so decided to hammer a pole into the ground, and have a play. I know it is nowhere near plumb, but it has given me chance to muck about. The flat we are moving to is almost perfect for a motorised system, as it has almost complete east to west visibility (got a tree way over east, not sure how far over yet though). I've been tinkering, and sussed the patches and cams, despite the dish being way off. My missus then announces she is getting sick of hearing the dish whining when we move it. Inspired by York's post (and sticky) :

I thought I'd get a DISEqc splitter, and feed our sky dish into it, and set it as a static dish, so the astra channels are near instant, and the dish won't need to move. It all works well, with one quirk, which sounds identical to York's. When I switch to 28.2 and select a channel, if I then try and change to a different satellite, which the dish isn't parked on, the "moving to" dialogue pops up, but the dish doesn't move. If I select a different satellite, it sets off no problem, and will then move to the satellite.
My setup at the moment is:
technomate connected to "receiver" on DISEqc splitter LNB1 connected to DISEqc dish motor, and then motor to lnb obviously. LNB2 is connected straight to the lnb on the static dish.
I'm wondering if it will still work, if I put the DISEqc splitter after the motor?
I'm not going to start chopping up CT100 cable yet, as I've got just about enough.
I'll get some photos up when I get it installed in the new place, in fact, if I get chance, I might get some of it as it is now, for you all to have a laugh at, as I literally gabbed some pole, and sledgehammered it into the ground :eek:

So, my question is :) has anybody else had any experience of the DISEqc command "stalling", or any other suggestions?

Yes, put the diseqc switch after the motor. It will work faultlessly then.

Also on the TM, you will have to turn USALS/Diseqc1.2 OFF for 28.2E, if you don't want the dish to move for 28E. This can only be done using an editor on a computer, eg TMEditor

I had a copy once, can't remember where I got it. Google it and it will turn up. One of the forums that allows downloads will have it.It might be on the Technomate website.
 
I've got the dish setup at my new place now, and I'm tracking everything (almost) between 45W and 30 E.
I'm now going to stick up the 60cm second dish, and I'm not having much luck finding the TMeditor software. I'm presuming I will have to connect my 5400 to the pc with a null modem cable, once I've found it?
 
I have not done it with the TM5400, only with the TM1000, but I don't see any reason why the file cannot be edited on the PC and loaded onto the TM5400 with a USB stick, though a null modem cable can be used as well.

I have just put a copy of the editor on my website. PM me and I will send you a link.

Robbo, I've not used a Technomate, but with every other receiver I've used that can be edited from the box using the remote. It seems strange something as important as that can't be controlled from the box.

Well,I have used a Technomate many times, actually I've used the TM1000,TM1500,TM5200,TM5300,TM5400,TM6800 and TM6900.:-rofl2

And it can't be done from the menus with the remote. If you change one sat , it changes them all.'O'-red Which is rather annoying, but that's what it does.
 
It is true with the Technomates; the motor setting cannot be changed for individual satellites with the remote; only with an editor the TM Editor (possibly also, not sure, the Clarke Tech Editor). As for the TM editor, it can be downloaded from that a l s a t forum website (like it or loathe it!).
 
Thanks for the link robbo, but it didn't open my channel list, as it couldn't open cndf file format.
I downloaded another ndf editor, and after a bit of head scratching, worked out how to upload my channel list, and then managed to open it in the editor, and turn off usals for 28.2.
Working a treat :-worship
