Technomate 5400 won't boot

Hello

My technomate 5400 will not boot up.

It has been working fine for years but now will not switch on.

After disconnecting from mains supply I get the time displayed on the front of the box.

It will not respond to the remote control (red light flash on front of box)

It will not switch on when buttons on front of box are pressed.

Any suggestions?

Yep.

Take the case of and check for bulging/leaking Power Supply Smoothing Capacitors.

Replace.

Reboot.
 
Sorry I'm not technical at all and have never opened up any electrical kit.

How would I do this?
 
If you're not happy to do it, then don't.

But it is a likely cause and many seemingly dead receivers of various makes and models have been cheaply revitalised thus.
 
Does it look like my technomate is now dead?

Am I looking at a replacement receiver now and what would anyone suggest?
