i'm keen to get my remote to work again, just wondering how can i do a hardware reset with out the remote (hopeing to ge it working that way), or would repatching the receiver work ?

are you sure it is the receiver that is the problem? are you able to borrow a remote to try or check yours on another receiver of the same type? if you take your remote to a t.v. engineer they should be able to test it, most have a remote tester. this will tell you if it is the remote or the receiver.

If the Remote Telecommander hasn't been used much in the months leading to its demise, it is not uncommon for one or more battery terminals to corrode as the result of galvanic action and/or battery leakage.

Remove batteries, clean contacts with edge of a screwdriver blade or similar, taking care to hold the device so that any loosened bits of corroded material don't get inside.

Fit fresh batteries.
 
Have a look at the remote through a digital camera (on the lcd display), you should see a a white flashing light coming out of the emitter.

while cleaning the eage's off with a small scruedrive i saw that one of the negitve springs have fallen off.

any one got some gum ?? need the mettle bit :P
