I've been looking at our threads and the net regarding best sat boxes for fringe reception and it seems that Technomate come out tops for a lot of people. Shame I could not find any direct comparison between these and the Humax but there we go :)

I see that the popular choice is the TM5402 H2 but having looked at the Technomate web site I see they also produce a TM5502 HD. Apparently, like the TM5402 HD it is "Based on the highest rated satellite receiver…ever! (92% by What Satellite magazine*), the new HD range is even better!" And that is the key issue for me.

I understand that it does not have a RF Modulator and has fewer video interface connections but it fits my needs. Apart from that, the specifications look pretty much identical.

Doe's anyone have one of these (or knowledge of them) who could give me some feedback or advise. For obvious reasons, my primary requirement is fringe reception performance.

Sorry can't help with those models but with a Technomate you will be able to pick up UK tv easily on 27.5W because it can de-crypt Biss.Check beam "Spot 2" on 27.5W here:
http://www.satbeams.com/footprints Not sure how long this "service" will last, though.
Wouldn't have thought that the Technomate was that much better than the Humax, with regard to fringe reception, but I couldn't be certain. What sort of reception are you getting?Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will post.Cheers

At the moment I get all BBC and ITV/Channel 4 stuff. BBC1 and ITV are fine, BBC2 pixelates a little but is easily watchable 24/7 however channel 4 is pixelating a little to much at times and makes it unsatisfactory to watch. So I am looking at anything that will give me that little edge over what I currently have. I have a BlackUltra LNB ordered and will see what difference that delivers but would also consider a new box if it would help me.

The 5302 is identical to the 5502 apart from being able to take an internal hard drive, The blind scan on the 5302 certainly beats the 5402 and its hubtech clones the F15 and the Blade 7000s as they all have the 45000sr Bug.

If i was considering a new model now i would possibly consider either the TMF3/5 new model it has a few quirk's regarding the blindscan but these have been reported and apparently a fix is on the way its also cheaper than the 5402 but slightly dearer than the 5302 other models are the CT4100 and the DrHD D15.

Both the 5302/5502 is certainly at the moment the clear winner when it comes to blind scanning

Thanks digi247. Didn't consider the TMF3/5 - don't know why, it just escaped by attention for no known reason :). I will certainly consider that as a good option and, as you point out, it is cheaper.

Clarke Tech and Dr-HD products are unknown to me and add more confusion to the exercise of deciding what to go for so given the reports that I have seen so far I think that I will limit myself to one of the TM products.

Is the only difference of the 5502 hd is the option of internal hard disc ?

I seems to mention USB hard disc on technomates website

I noticed there is a new m3 version of tm 5402 hd well have to see if the tuner sensitivity is any better or worse than previous revision of receiver

Seems the new M3 is a vastly superior box compared with the M1 & M2 versions - tuner improved as Blind Scan now very versatile, 2 x USB's, IPTV options, 100 Biss keys lines, most softcam packages now open with latest patches/softcam,although this does also apply to most models now TM seem to have finally begun to get their act together after the demise of the previous patchman, etc etc!

Hmm just about to order to order an M3 version but the discount code WOS gave me does not work, waited all day for a reply :(
if only it could decode 4.2.2 also, oh well maybe some day !

Not happy with the M3 so far, no Symbol rate limit option in blind scan :( Is it on the M1 / M2 version ? The new GUI is awful also

Afraid not that little option in the firmware was lost a long time ago, and its not available on any current TM receivers

OK thanks, so it seems, ridiculous to not include it especially these days

Any chance of some screen shots of the new GUI?

So bland to me but here are some I uploaded to another forum just now
Thanks, I assume this is now in HD resolution? Looks like a similar change Dr.HD made a while back from SD to HD GUI.

Yes guess they could not use the old GUI for an HD TV. I wonder how it compares with the GUI of the 5302. Can anyone upload some screen shots of this please ?
