I recentlly purchased TM-5402 as I thought it would do all I wanted to do, going by the spec. I received it last week and it was dead on arrival no standby led lit no display. (switching on at back and pressing power button on front). I am wondering what the reliability of this unit is or am I just unlucky. I have sent it back for replacement any comments on expierences with this unit.

Hi bought one a few months back, after realising the 5400 i had bought was not hd...[SHOULD HAVE DONE MORE RESEARCH].
Found it to be very good picture wise especially hd,easy to use and patch..
Have now bought a VU+solo, whole different ball game, big learning curve, and i think hd is softer than the tm5402

My first tm5402 was faulty so had to get another one. Seems they are easily damaged in transit so ask sender to make sure its well packaged.
The box itself I have found easy to use and has a good picture but it does seem to get hot quick as the fan comes on a lot so I might move it to a more open space.
Overall I'm glad I went for this box first, its ease of use is good for those just starting out.

Yes I think it is a reliable source I have sent it back, they said it comes direct to them from manufacturer and its unusual event to get a faulty one. There is a replacement on the way to me.

Yes, you'd be truly unlucky to get two duff ones in succession.

Technomates are usually very reliable. I have an old Tm1000, that's bashed about, been out in the rain, dropped a few times, about 3 or 4 years old and still going strong.

Have also had a brand new TM5200 dead on arrival, swapped it for a new one and was fine.

I have two customers with them, updated every couple of weeks or so and they have been running fine for over a year.

I can't say I've even heard the fan running, but they are both in ventilated housings.

Looking at getting one of these to upgrade my motor dish to hd as they only 135.

Whats the tuner sensitivity like and blind scan ?

I do have a tm1500 as a spare, is the build quality the same and menu layout ?

Menu layout of tm5402 is the same as tm1000 series and tm5xxx series
I.e the best for ease if use.
