The box is fine for Freesat, but you won't get the Freesat EPG as you would with a dedicated Freesat receiver.

thanks the epg is not a problem, the reason I ask is after scanning I get the channels at about 97% in the green but no picture

OK, let's take it back to basics, is this a static dish and are you sure that it is pointing at the right satellite? It needs to be pointing at Astra 28.2 East.

PS. You don't need a card for free to air, as it is not encrypted.

thanks for being so patient I bet you have heard it all a thousand times, its a motorised system that has been left in the place it runs on the usals all I have done is to put a meter on it to see if I am geeting a strong signal ( its one of those led things) as I only want one sat do you think I would be better static mounting, the thing that throws me is the reciever says 97 quality 98

You need to go into the satellite menu and tick Astra 28.2, then go into the motor menu and send the motor to 28.2. It can show signal even when on another satellite, as they have similar transponder frequencies.

Just using the right curser should untick a satellite.

If you only want one satellite, it doesn't matter if you do or don't.

If you just want 28.2E, just press the SAT button on the remote, scroll down to Atra 28E/Eurobird1 and press the OK button on the remote.
The receiver will then only give you channels from that satellite.

Only if the motor can find it though. ;) The problem at the moment is that the dish doesn't appear to be on the satellite.

thanks for the help at the moment its teaming with rain and blowing a gale, so will take a look when the weather is better, I did a quick look earlier and it seems that it is locked on arabsat 26*e as the signal on transponder 1 is higher on that one so I think I will take the motor out of the equation because I think its not working as all sats ticked seem to have the same channels on them and as I only want 28.2 I will delete all channels and start again

What channels have you actually got that can be watched and on what frequencies?

I made the assumption that the system has been working in its present location, but I'm not so sure about it now. Can you fill us in on the full history? :)

the system was here and I took it as set up and working so I just chose astra 28.2 and done a search which returned about 300 odd channels but the only watchable ones are things like dan tv, ariring tv, tct, cnl, vtv4, f men, fashion tv, and so on freq 9.750/10.600 (thats the freq in blue yellow on signal but nothing in english, also when I change sats the motor does not seem to move as far as I can make out I need to go back to basics as there seems to be so many variables but I refuse to give up and get a engineer in

When you are viewing the channel and press the Ok button, it should tell you which satellite it is on and what frequency (not 9750/10600) .

For which channels?

OK, found the satellite you are on, it is Hotbird 13 East.

You really need to do a factory reset, as if you've been scanning lots of satellites when the dish is still on Hotbird, you will have lots of spurious data.

Once you've done that, tick Hotbird 13 East, then go into motor settings and set it to DiseqC 1.2 and save the satellite, also do a channel scan. Not 100% on the motor settings on Technomates, but I'm sure someone else will guide you through the next steps.

From memory, once you've saved the position of Hotbird, change it to USALS and enter your coordinates, then you can add Astra 28.2 as a satellite and change it to USALS also, you should be able to send the dish to it and do a scan. Make sure the dish has moved before doing a scan though, else you will end up with a load more spurious channels.
