Can I test my Dreambox 500s for cardsharing before getting a card and how do I go about it please?

All the information regarding card sharing you need can be found on the forum. If you want to learn how a DB works you need to sit down and do a few hours reading - there are no shortcuts with one of these boxes.

If you have bought one and expect it to magically open all pay services for free, well it doesnt work like that.

I don't. A paid site gave these instructions
CCcam Set Up

Please follow these simple instructions to install CCcam on your Dreambox In order to use these instructions directly your Dreambox should have installed the Gemini firmware image. If you are not using the Gemini image then we recommend you first install Gemini Server. Once installed, return to this page to set up CCcam.

* Go to blue panel by pressing blue button on remote

* Go to Addons. In there you will see download catagories (Gemini-Server) which contain cam and cam-config

* First go to cam and install cccam 2.1.11 or the latest version available

* Then from cam-config install cccam-config 2.1.11 or the latest version available

* From blue panel go to top of panel and use left/right buttons to scroll to CCcam 2.1.11 (or the version you have installed above)

* Now press the Green button to start CCcam

* Use an FTP program and editor to connect to your Dreambox via Dreambox IP address and navigate to the var/etc directory. A suitable editor is DCC which can be downloaded from this web site.

* In here you will find a file called CCcam.cfg. You must now edit this file

* In CCcam.cfg you must add the C: line that you were given

* Save the changes to CCcam.cfg and enjoy!

Its trying to get a valid C: line that is the problem.

Well no-one in their right mind is going to give you a c-line - no disrespect but at worst you could be a snooper from one of the pay tv companies!

Anyone with any sense guards access to their shares like its the key to their bank book.

You can sometimes pick up working ones from free sites, which will allow you to see if its working, although from what I understand they are hopelessly over subscribed and dont work very well.

I understand and agree with what you say. I've tried a couple of free sites but they don't work so how do we get started?

There is no easy solution. If you seriously want to cardshare get a cheap subscription that gets UK football like ESPN or Tring and ask for shares on the cardshare forums.

^^ If you do that BE CAREFUL. Make sure you know EXACTLY how resharing works - many unscrupulous operators reshare unsuspecting punters cards in commercial rings. If they get to the notice of the pay tv companies you can expect some awkward questions from the local plod :D

I still can belive how many people go out buy a cheap linux box....plug it in....and expect to see sky sports 1.

Cant believe how many people own them and havnt the foggiest. Then keep phoning you everytime something goes wrong.

Point them in the direction of the forum - we will tell them to get reading as well :D

Now that's what I call sensible replies to a beginner's question on what is obvious to the rest of you. If you don't know what your looking for you'll never find it! Many thanks for help.
