My Satellite Setup
Small camping dish.
DB-500S.
My Location
London
Well after close to 4 hours of sweating and swearing I finally got a crystal clear broadcast from my DB500S

I live in a small flat in London (no dishes allowed) so I bought a camping dish from ebay, the smallest I could find. and hooked it up to my brand new untouched DB.

Can only see a tiny portion of the sky from my flat and as luck would have it I stumbled across Hispasat 30W. I thought there must be something wrong with my equipment at first since the SNR was always showing 60%.

The final SNR was 85% with no loss. I'm a complete satellite & DB noob but I managed to get a scan of the channels, hundreds of them!! although most are scrambled.

Anyway I couldn't have done it withought reading a lot of threads from these boards so thank you all!

Finally a quick question: I have a satellite finder meter (didn't use it in the end) do I have to specify a satellite/ transponder on the DB for the meter to detect a signal?

No, you don't

And (hopefully) after the World Cup finishes 30W may open up again...

Fair play to you. Now dont go searching for anything else because you would probally wont get it because of the size of dish. So mark the settings just in case. Maybe later you will be able to view something good. All black at the moment. So hold out.
