The Best DM800 Image

There have been a few new images that have hit the streets recently and I am considering whether it is worth updating my box; I was just interested in other peoples experiences with the latest images?

Presently I'm running PLI Jade final from October 08 with bootloader 62; I have the following findings:-

Pros's

Very stable
Excellent picture on SD
Excellent picture and performance on HD
Box runs cool
Instant startup from standby
Supports CCCam well

Con's

Positioner difficult to setup - Expect this is the same for all E2 images?
I don't like channel navigiation compared to 500 - Expect this is the same for all E2 images?
Skin support not great - I like to modify the skin to show things like frequency and CCCam info
Reponse of remote inconsistent - sees a key press twice or not at all sometimes
Cannot scan / slow scan on a satellite with dead/weak transponders
Cannot delete channels or satellites - for some reason I have duplicate channels and satellite
Web interface a bit flakey - But aren't they all??
Occasional lip sync problems

Hi,

Ive only used Gemini on my 800 but run PLI Iolite on my 500.
I,ve got to say I prefere PLI but have my 800 just about running how I like it and don't want to risk a change to PLI.
I also have lip sync probs with Gemini occasionly and have had loads of trouble with setting up and scanning sats. In fact my dish is stuck on 1w at the moment and won't move.

Nabilo BH 0.6 if by far the best image, trust me once your try it you won't use any other.
I have tested the latest from Pli and Gemini also.
You will find tuner set up is better in all the later images.

I think it does depend which Gemini version you're on, I believe 3.9 solves many issues. I noticed a significant improvement when I went from Gemini 3.8 to 4.xx on my 500. It wasn't that big issues were sorted more that quite a few minor niggles were fixed. E.g. unzipping TAR files used to stop working, not a show stopper just ******* annoying.

i almost have all images installed on my 800 and can easily say that the latest nabilo blackhole v0.6 is the best.

i have the latest nabilo pure flash in the flash and all other images on my usb pendrive

My biggest bug bear at the moment is inconsistent remote control operation. I.e. seeing a command twice or not at all. I think its software, images on other boxes (DBox2) allow you to set a key repeat delay, a sort of de-bounce I would describe it as. Can't see that it the Jade PLI, perhaps its a plug in??

I used the BH 0,3 untill I put a NewNigma2 image at middle of the summer and this is the image that I like most now. Especially with its Christmas edition and online update of Ver.2.3 now. The only thing that I can't drive on it is Barry Allen multi boot. I don't know why but it gave me an errore while I install it no matter if it is on the , flash, USB penflash or on the HDD.

Just installed Nabilo BH 0.6 image, wow its superb. Had to install bootloader 69 after as I got the CA error. It took a while to work out that the green button gives you access to more plugins like CCCam and skins. I installed the fix for the default skin and it works great, I press ok which bring up the basic channel info then ok again and it brings up frequency, provider, SNR %, CCCam info - exactly what I wanted!

Still can't get USALS to work, I think it is something to do with my VBox. Oh well I will have to store the satellites manually again.

I've always used Gemini images on DM500, DM600 and still now on my DM7025 and my DM800. Although I was drawn by the EPG function on Nabilosat BlackHole 0.6. So, I went ahead and installed on my DM800. In short, loads of problems, crashes, hangs, all sorts. Reverted back to latest GP2 image.
Since then, I've now setup multiboot on my DM7025 using Nabilo Pure Flash with Barry Allen. I'm now starting out researching what the problems may have been on the 800 with the BH 0.6 image. I'll report back soon.
Oh, PLi Jade, nah not for me. I thought it very basic compared to GP2 image.

Its probably better if I stay away from Gemini with me having a Clone, when you had crashes with BH0.6 was the unit getting hot? I've only had one crash, that was when the unit was on a carpeted floor and was running really hot, I moved it and then it was ok. It usually runs cool, apparently the clones have a heatsink on the processor.

May help you if you let me know when the crashes took place.
First of all, if BH 06 was installed to multiboot, did you install Pure Flash 29th december to flash ?

Hi DeepDiver I sure do recognize that avatar of yours. Thanks for the offer, I've installed pure flash on my DM7025 and now have BH0.6 running from CF. So far so good. I've got it setup with 1 cable and 1 sat tuner. No crashes so far, although I do think the 7025 is generally more stable than the 800. My DM800 does run very hot, I'm considering removing the HDD. So anyway, on the DM7025 I've got the EPG working great and all is well so far. There's one thing I've not done yet which I did on the 800. Because I have 2 DM's together I have my remote setup to control 1 on Dream button and the other on Aux - Dream. To enable this I enter this into the bootup file.

I'm wondering if this may be the cause of the boot loop I encountered on the DM800. Tomorrow I will add the line and see. Again , I'll report back.

Very likely to be the issue. It is reccomended not to edit that file.
As far as I remember, there is a plugin to handle remote controls. It is multiRC plugin.

I've found out why my remote wasn't working properly, a hardware problem. I emailed the company in Yorkshire about the remote problem and they emailed back within about an hour and said that it was not the remote but the front panel, they sent out a new one and it was here the following morning. Excellent support! based it the UK. I've read that this issue has been seen on clones and original, although some people reckon they've solved it in software, umm can't see it myself.

I had to set my dish up using the tuner advanced settings and manually storing the positions because of the VBox, so I've just used obvious postion numbers for each satellite e.g 28 = 28E 13 = 13E etc. But the beauty of it is in theory I will never have to re-postion the dish. Basically the VBox is independant of the receiver, it just sends it a postion number an the Vbox deals with the positioning. I've even unplugged the DM800 and used my DM500 and the Vbox moves to the correct satellite, provided you've used the same numbers. Whatever it says on the front of the VBox, thats the sat its on !

I'll post a list of transponders I've used for each satellite when I get round to it as the DM800 does often seem to get its knickers in a twist during a scan.
