If you didn't understand the title (and who would blame you?) I'll explain. The solutions relate to records that were number 1 in the charts over a 20ish year chronological period (when it begins and ends will become apparent once a couple are solved). Additionally the records were Xmas hits in different countries, though I've had to include more than one from the UK and USA. E.G. one answer could be the Xmas number one in Azerbaijan in 1955 (it isn't by the way) Remember the clues relate to the song title, the year and location has no influence in the clue wording. You can have kudos points for naming the year and country but I will post that info when a song is guessed correctly. As usual only two guesses per person per day. The judges say is final but may be influenced by a delivery of whisky from Amazon France. Bonne Chance.

(3) :Y
(17) :Y....Actually it was also a hit in France which was the country I found. However, Germany does also appear in the answers, just not this year..

It's really difficult to find an English language hit record in France, there's a certain percentage of radio airplay which must contain French language recordings.

Boy I remember how that song was played every hour or so, when driving to my christmas home at that time....

Don't be mislead that these will be Xmas themed songs...besides, 'Last Christmas' is bit outside the 20 years in which I've set the quiz...

FYI here are The Cats with Marian (though it's sung Mary Ann). Similar in style to The Hollies.

I should also point out that a record may have been a Xmas number 1 in several countries at the same time. Equally there are records that were not Xmas hits in the UK or the USA but got to number 1 in other countries.....well that's confused everyone, so I'm off out to have lunch and give my Lidl's Xmas jumper an outing....

Both correct songs. However the country I chose for the Hollies was New Zealand and Mammy Blue was a hit for Charisma in Rhodesia.
