"The Dish" is showing on Film 4 tonight (14/08/06) about NASA commandeering Australia's big antenna to downlink pictures of the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969.

i haven't seen it myself, but would welcome any critique of the film from anybody who has.

As with most films based on true stories, it's probably a little economical with the truth, but should be worth a look.

The following film, 'Solaris' is disappointingly not the original Tarkovsky one, but again worth a viewing.

Well, I've just watched it. Dire rubbish, very disappointing.

If you get the chance, go for original version.

My own fave Tarkovsky film is Stalker, based on book Roadside Picnic.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadside_Picnic .
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalker_(movie) .
http://tarkovskyzone.proboards27.com/ .

Both Wiki entries are bizarrely wrong, in that Roadside Picnic referred to the Tunguska Event. Not Chenobyl, which happened long after the novel was written!

Nope, you want to do it?

(it may well be that the novel is NOW assocated with Chernobyl, but that's not the point! Prior to the novel appearing - and well before it was generally accepted that large things still do fall on the earth, from time to time - there was much speculation about the Tunguska event, some of it occult, and this at least partly inspired "The Zone").

Nah, not my field of expertise, if there be one, that is.

Haven't seen the films either which further disqualifies me I think.

Oh no ....groan .... yes, we really did land on the moon!

The actual book on this subject, Dark Moon, is mega-rubbish.
