Story of a trusty old friend, serving it's owner trough rain, snow, cold and heat for 25 years.
This motor\90 cm's life began in approx 1990 (the woman in the house got very angry, of course :0) !!no such ugly thing on the house, we can't afford this, what will the neighbours say!! etc etc). Was initially mounted on a chimney (countless numbers of trips up the ladder to adjust, or remove snow) then some firemen had an inspection and somehow deemed it unsafe, moved it to a wall at standing height, 500% more practical.
Started with analog 19 & 13 E, later got a 'tampered' skybox that lasted a while, then run filmnet etc with Season, homemade etched print to make a card interface for rs232 running on an old pc for decrypting, continuously hunting for keys on the net. Those where the days of youth and fun! (I know no talk of decrypting here, but suppose this is ok as old historical anecdote).
The 90 also saw many visits to 27,5W as Discovery was FTA there. Several analog receivers (Echostar, Triax) later got a digital box, with the 90 doing Astra 19E only. Later got a new dish for 19E and the 90 went to 28.2 and did a great job there up until relegated when the new UK beams forced a change to larger replacement. Now it's back alive, doing tests on 5W.
The LNB is approx 15 years old, no problems. The motor still runs like new 25 years ago. May dismantle it one day to clean\relubricate all moving parts, and mount the dish properly for hunting purposes. Still don't know much about anything, but somehow always manage to get a picture and a stable setup, and thanks to the forum here, lot's of good info indeed. Btw, anyone recognizes the motor system?
