The type of thing that you see on every FM radio and many DAB units nowadays.

Some webpages give information that it was a US design that ended up with a patent in 1944/5.

I think it was older than this. Does anybody know when and where the first example of a telescopic aerial design was crafted/used ?

It's the original design rather than the specific example that is of interest, that of differing diameter cylinders that can slide inside each other, with a brass collet and turned end that prevents the device from falling to pieces when extended. I suppose it doesn't have to be a telecommunication device, so the actual idea may be far older than last century.
