Hey, I thought we weren't supposed to "quote Wiki" (I got told off for doing that ....Rolf?).
However, yes good stuff. Reminded me of "the wit and wisdom of Ronald Reagan", which - I seem to remember - was actually a vinyl lp record with nothing on it. However, on googling for that, all I got was actual Reagan quotes, which are genuinely quite funny ("irony", huh!).
Well, never mind. Somebody's been rude about our Royals (it's to The Tower for you, Salty!), so I'll just insult the current USA President (needs extradition proceedings, a bit more difficult!).

I have never said not to link to wiki, I simply said that we are not going to be their web advertiser and if you want to link to them, then do not make it active, in fact we prefer most links not to be active and set the posting default so that they wouldn't be, but of course as normal, everyone ignores it.
On a secondary point, we really prefer posts to be informative in themselves and not solely a vehicle for linking to other sites.
Back on topic, If you read the vast majority of complete articles from Prince Philip, he is a pragmatic and informed man. Yes, you can certainly pick out the odd politically incorrect quote here and there, but he is of an age and upbringing, where people said what they thought, not what they thought would be acceptable.
Even looking at the list of quotes at the lower half of that page, many of them are no more than the truth.

I agree rolfw, most of what he says is based, at least partly, on an element of truth, although the 'Beijing' incident was pure bigitory, but very funny in a un-PC way. He must be a good laugh after a couple of pints!

Well, certainly, I probably give more live links than anyone else! On the other hand, that's mostly in "what's on telly tonight", which only about 5 people seem to read, so shouldn't matter too much. I also try to "spread out" the links, so not favouring a particular website.
If there's an official request for no live links, then of course I'll have to comply, but I believe this would be a bad move.

I think Rolf gave a nicely balanced view, HRH does in fact say things worth listening to on many topics, but is also a bit gaffe prone, and that's what journalists and newspapers - very selectively - report (unfortunately!).
