The worst employment situation....

Hi guys, been working with a UK wide (large business) facilities management company for just over two years, two months. The job I don't mind but I am constantly being paid incorrectly (Three times in the last fiscal year we're coming to the end of), this pay is short £217 odd, local management is quite frankly useless. This has been a constant ongoing issue with it always happening at the worst time, Xmas just passed there was short £100 odds also. About a year ago I emailed the director of the division I work for and in all fairness to this individual he basically lit a fire under the management team at my region and a meeting was hurriedly organised and my money paid to me. Speaking to ACAS today it looks like I'm going to need to write another letter giving them reasonable time to pay said money to me ect ect. Anybody else experienced such a constant battle for monies owed by a employer? Its seriously stressing me the *#¥% out. Employment law in this country is a complete joke imho.

What bothers me is I could be doing this "make an official complaint, win case, and then begin again" from now to infinity, consecutive offenders of this type of behavior should be fined, the only time these c#nts take notice is when their pockets (Well share holders) get hit.

From "experience" (although not "identical") you also have my sympathy (working contract about 12 yrs ago, I went on holiday and came back and was ready to go to work on the Monday, but then I got an email saying that I was "not needed" that week - had to get the agency involved to tell the company that they had to pay me for the week even if they didn't "need" me - per the terms of my contract! Needless to say, that was the end of that "job"!)

I have also had the "pleasure" of working with an employment agency, I'm surprised they still exist with employment law the way it is in this country now, employers be like the bad guys in Lethal Weapon 2...."Diplomatic immunity Mr Griggs".......

Well I'd quite happily "revoke" their corrupt practices...

Hm I have very rarely been paid incorrectly. The only time they screw up because of slow approval of on call hours from the management.

I am very happy that I work in the UK and not, say, the US where you can get fired without notice and without being given any reason at any time. This happens all the time in the company I work for.

I have also had the "pleasure" of working with an employment agency, I'm surprised they still exist with employment law the way it is in this country.

We have one of those in the village high street. Never seen a more inept bunch of people in one office, I usually laugh as I pass by, sometimes a face palm when scouring the spelling errors on the window cards. It will be a sad day when I walk through the door.

Having had contact literally hundreds of employment agencies over the years (20+ jobs, 4-5 redundancies and many "near misses" - that's why I had job-related stress for decades!) and worked through a number and got jobs via others, I have mixed feelings about them as the "quality" varies enormously from very good to totally abysmal. Could probably name a handful of the former and a dustbin full of the latter - in my "limited" experience () I would say that a few of the smaller agencies are amongst the former.

However, they did/do sometimes provide leads to jobs about which you would not otherwise hear - especially nowadays when there are very few jobs directly advertised by the actual employers in the papers and the like. OTOH, they also send you info on, and even try to pressurise you to apply for, jobs for which you have either no skills, are actively trying to avoid or in locations where you don't want to go (Having told many that I need to work somewhere within easy commute of our house in Hayes, W. London, I would regularly get contacted about jobs in places like Telford, Coventry/Birmingham - or even Scotland ).

Also, having helped to screen potential job applicants for some employers, many agencies put forward candidates who were totally unsuited to the posts on offer.

BTW: luckily I rarely had problems over payments because I let an accountancy firm handle the paperwork, (JSA in Watford handled most of my contract PAYE stuff and were generally very good over the years, although not the cheapest, and they also did the accountancy work for my latter years under my Ltd company.)

There are reasons why this is the norm, greasing palms being the top of the pile.
