Vu uno, VU Duo2, sky dish, 2 zone 2 dishes for 19.2 and 23.5. Satlink meter, rover STCeu meter. Tripod with a dish for messing around.

I have been thinking about becoming an installer, nothing to much just for a bit of extra cash, weekend and evening work. I have a reasonable basic knowledge of the Satellites and how to align a dish, plus i can read so online tutorials are easy enough.

Installers around my area are hard to find and can be very expensive so i hink i may have a market. I have ladders, drills and dont mind getting dirty! I am looking at buying a sat meter that will help to make the job as easy as possible, i have taken advice from this forum that the best starter one is the Satcatcher Digipro, I have seen these for £550 on most suppliers websites and i have seen one on ebay for £450, can anyone tell me why it is 100 cheaper?

Does anyone have any advice for a new guy getting in to the industry?
 
First you should get a NIT meter, this saves time when doing custom installs, i learned that lesson dearly and be more efficient.

Satlook Digital NIT is enough, i use the one, but i think the battery life is limited, only 1 hour approx.

Roversat is pretty good, you should get one that can stand rain and hard conditions, the Satlook i have can't stand rain outside as it's not protected.

Also be sure to get a good insurance if you fall off some high roof and get knackered.

The cheaper Micro NIT meter might be of some interest.
 
Thans very much, i am looking at these meters now online, how are these much better? i want to specialise n he motorsed setups as i find local companies reluctant to install them

Although i am looking for a professional peice of equipment i am also after ease of use, good company support, regular updates.
 
Having the best meter does not make you good at installing motorised dishes, knowing what you are doing does. Having a good meter just makes it more convenient in my opinion. Though I do have the Micro NIT, and can confirm, for the money, its very good, with GotoX and NIT, you can't go wrong.
 
i know this is a stupid question, what is NIT exactly?

wth his meter , ebay 370354147865 Satlook Micro assume i will be in a good footing to start getting my hands dirty? are the user manuals any good on these? i assume they support USALS? I know i will need to get 100 jobs under my belt before i can call myself a decent installer but we all start somewhere!!!
 
NIT (Network Information Table) for satellite identification.
 
I have decided to make the leap in to the unknown, slightly out of the comfort zone.

I am going to get one of these meters, they are about 200 cheaper than the one i was looking at but it looks like it can do the same job so thanks for the advice. i have just downloaded the manual to have a flick through.

Do any of the forum sponsors sell these meters to your knowledge?

Also you mentioned USALS (goto X) but i vant see it mentioned in the technical description anywhere.
 
I have the Satlook Micro, It's a good little meter. Though I used an old fortec reciever with a 7" lcd screen for ages, and still do for weak sats as it's a little more sensetive than the Satlook. It definatley does USALS. The manual I got with mine is pretty crap and dosen't go through everything.
